And again, no judgement from me, just an academic curiosity. I suspect you are overall correct though.
Huh? I don’t know where they are. Search function people! Here’s a couple off of one search for age/old in title:Can you please link them?
Exactly. This community feels like it skews on the older side. I'd love to get some data and see what's what.
My mistake, I only did searches for income, not age.Huh? I don’t know where they are. Search function people! Here’s a couple off of one search for age/old in title:

Nothing conclusive. I believe we have about 4-10 active members in 20s. A lot more in there 30s. I’d venture a guess almost 100% of chippers here are 35+ (even if I’m wrong, it has to be 90%+).
I’d guess more than 50% of pcfers are working not retired, but on the other side more than 50% done child rearing vs having young kids (or ability to).
At the end of the day, we all have the same income regarding chipping: “Not enough”My mistake, I only did searches for income, not age.
My dream goal…. It doesn’t seem to be working out. They come in, look around, find a set of chips they can finally afford, they get them and they are gone. Even if they were middle range chips they are gone to us. The owners don’t post here, they just wanted some better chips for some reason. There’s hundreds of these kind of members.
Angel Fire is fantastic place. I would have called it heaven, but El Jefe's inexplicably stopped selling their green chili cheeseburger. There are 150 miles of unpaved roads in my village. But we do have 6 miles of pavement
There are no social services for 50 miles from our village. No hospital, no doctor, but we do have a police and fire dept. People in my state still live in houses made out of mud.
I hope you enjoy all your amenities.
I hope we don’t need emergency care.
I originally responded to your post because you pointed out that with your income you felt you could not afford a set of Paulson chips. Then you made an assumption that folks who could afford nice chips must have high paying private sector jobs as if that’s what’s held you back from buying a Paulson set."Matters to you" is much more on the nose and accusatory than my interest. I'm an academic. I teach economics and link that with demographic data. For me it would be a purely academic exercise to further understand the microeconomics of this hobby.
What a great way of illustrating exacting why taxes are important.I went ahead and did some figures for you, assuming that living in California you probably paid state income taxes of at least $5000 per year.
My numbers were pretty close. If you lived in a more tax friendly state like Florida or Texas and could invest that $5000 in yourself verses giving it to California, in 30 years and based on S&P 500 average returns, you’d have yourself just over a cool million in savings.
And probably could afford those Paulsons you’re wanting.
Anyways, enjoyed the banter @BigGrizz and I’m routing for you in acquiring those Paulsons you mention.
Looks like you want to be treated with disdain and talked to as an inferior then?"Who cares about everyone else? The govt isn't going to steal my money, I'm going to use it to buy some pricey hobby items for me and my closest friends. But remember, as I always say, "treat others the way you want to be treated""
Well ya. I've got plenty in the S&P 500 (VTI actually). But that does play into demographics though because one of my categories was older people with excess investments. That would be this route. I can probably get a paulson set when I hit 60 without much issue. But that is still a while off.I originally responded to your post because you pointed out that with your income you felt you could not afford a set of Paulson chips. My responses to you were more to say that anyone who wants to own a nice set of chips can do so depending more on where their financial choices lye verses having a private sector job or a government job.
In the state of Virginia where I’m originally from, there are many people employed by the federal government or government contractors who make large six figure incomes.
In the town of Fredericksburg where I once used to live and work, almost 2/3 of people employed work for the government and make substantially more in salaries than their private sector counterparts.
So when I see a government employee hinting that people in the private sector are somehow better off financially with their jobs, it kinda makes me laugh.
After 49 years of living in Virginia and working in the private sector, it became evident that my private sector salary could no longer afford me the quality of life as folks with those high paying government jobs.
So five years ago I decided to do something about it, which is what I was hinting at toward you with my responses.
Now that I realize you’re in academia, your wanting to know certain things makes more sense, but I really don’t think demographics has anything to do with owning a nice set of chips or not.

Not sure I get your intent with the post but I take no issue with claiming responsibility for my own betterment in life. No one but myself owes me that. What a great way of illustrating exacting why taxes are important.

Keep on investing and one day you might be in the demographic of “older with excess investments.”Well ya. I've got plenty in the S&P 500 (VTI actually). One day and more billions later you’ll be able to take that bullet train from LA to the Bay Area also. MAYBE.To be fair to California, when you break down where our state taxes go a lot of it is infrastructure and services that arenf handouts. So I get my worth generally. Lots of construction though...
I didn’t own any Paulsons until I was in my 50’s. I could have, I just chose not to.Well ya. I've got plenty in the S&P 500 (VTI actually). FYPLots ofconstructiongrift though...
It's ok, I see how you got confused, but I was quoting Tuna for the treat others the way you want to be treated line.Looks like you want to be treated with disdain and talked to as an inferior then?
The intent was to highlight the discrepancy of your philosophies that brought up and said you live by. The point in general is that people only care about themselves (which to a certain extent, they have to care about themselves first), but to those who are fortunate enough to be in a position where paying taxes won't make a material difference in their lives, they should contribute and they should feel good about how they are making their own daily lives and the lives of other a little bit better. And of course, if you were in the unfortunate position where you needed some help here and there, I'm sure you'd be grateful for others who are so giving and willing to help. Not sure I get your intent with the post but I take no issue with claiming responsibility for my own betterment in life. No one but myself owes me that.
And yes taxes are important when it comes to contributing to my local fire department, police, infrastructure up keep and military. I take no issue paying my fair share for those services.
I take no issues with the occasional hand ups to people in life either but constant hand outs to people who take very little responsibility for their choices in life gets really old.
Enjoy your weekend.
And I apologize if I derailed it too much! Sometimes I just see some comments and it puts me in a mood where I have to offer my thoughts.how the conversation is going
No need to apologize for having an opinion and I think that you might find we agree on more in life than we disagree. And I apologize if I derailed it too much! Sometimes I just see some comments and it puts me in a mood where I have to offer my thoughts.
Oh I fully agree. No need to apologize for having an opinion and I think that you might find we agree on more in life than we disagree.
What’s read in a post on a forum lots of times is easily misinterpreted verses you have the same conversation in person.
Maybe catch you at a meetup someday.
Me as well!but something about taxes fires me up
No problem. We are used to the “rules for thee but not for me” mentality out thereIt's ok, I see how you got confused, but I wasquotingchiding Tuna for the treat others the way you want to be treated line.
Lol every paycheck during my tiger hunt was like the "Max Ammo" drop on a COD Zombie map1. Completely rekless with their finances.
2. Have amazing, very high paying jobs in the private sector.
This is my approach, ~2% of net worth in hobby assets (watches, poker chips, etc).
That was CPC. But nobody knows if new owner will maintain quality, or reopen at all. So, people hold on CPC chips as well, in case they become collectibles. For people like me just willing to play with good chips, there's no point paying $10 per chip as in the ads, Tina's or SunFly are perfect. Collector market (chips kept in vaults and never felted) is certainly different, as well as investor market. Special mention for reseller market, people crawling eBay or etsy for underpriced chips to be sold here at $$$ whithout even changing the pics (very funny to compare the two ads). Sometimes there are weird ads, like a rare French set recently proposed at an astronomical price under a handle referring to a local drug cartel...It often feels like I missed the golden age of this hobby. We need a new player in the lower-to-mid end home compression clay market.
This is why I've mostly written off a paulson set ever. Idk what people here do for a living
I wonder why you guys are in favor of taking other peoples wealth and redistributing it.I'd love to own some of the premium stuff, but that's just not how it works. We all have a budget and the nice stuff is far and away out of the budget for many people.
Credit where it’s due……the memes and gifs have been on point as of late Jeffrey.
