So I have been training like a maniac for the last months getting ready for summer and a practice trip abroad in April. Hoping to get back to the club championship Top Division this summer and maybe trying some other tournaments. I envy you guys for your weather where you can play all-year round.

what are you working on? Also trying to really improve, particularly ball striking with my irons. Trying to implement what my coach is getting me to do but scores are impacted - that said it is winter so a lot of sh*t lies out there currently if the course is even open

How deep do you want to go?

Main challenge is moving my path from +4 to +2 for more consistency. So Iron contact is top priority but scoring irons are already quite good tbh. Trying to minimize my bad miss that is a long left when I dont manage to square the club well enough before impact.

Driver is my strong area so I have just been working on getting my speed back up to 108mph and AoA to steady +2

Pitching is what I will mainly work on in my practice trip where I have grass instead of Sim but distance control is crucial there.

Also been deep diving into course planning and Decade system to get my dispersion cones mapped out before the summer.

sound similar to me! i just got fitted for a 7 wood and never really noticed that i was quite inside on takeaway and path was like 4 degree in to out, also had a left miss in me. my teacher then worked on neutralising path and in the lesson i was flushing it, came away super confident but now got this weak right shot now that i find super frustrating having traditionally always had a neutral or baby draw shot shape.

I'm fine off tee with woods but it's a completely different swing and i release the club way better for the shot need. i must be holding onto face angles too much with iron play. ball is going everywhere so disheartening but trying to stick with it. got a few low rounds coming off my handicap soon so i need to figure it out or my handicap will balloon up

So I think going for a neutral path is not going to work for me, I just want to stay in the +1-+2 window so I keep my baby draw. The object of the game is not trying to hit it perfect everytime it is to control your miss and know where it goes. I hope to lower my HCP this summer.

PS woods and irons are the same swing just hitting the ball in different part of the swing, hit the irons on the way down and driver on the way up. It is way easier to focus on one swing rather than two ;)

I would love to have a 7 wood but in Icelandic wind it makes no sense. My top end of the bag is designed for Icelandic courses and conditions...

PS
What is your HCP at the moment?

i definitely yo yo a lot about trying to have a more traditionally nice looking swing than swinging my swing. naturally when i think less about it i score better, but trying to self reflect if i can score better by making some changes!

Yeah i definitely wouldn't have got the 7 wood if i needed to keep it low, i actually got it as a substitute to a hybrid which has a much lower ball flight but they carry the same (~220 yards) - i got a TM Qi4D and it flies off the face, i love it.

HCP is currently 3.1, but i have a +1 and 0.7 differential coming off soon, so unless i shoot under 75 a couple times (par 71 course), then i'll end up up being about 4-5.

how about you? are there any iconic courses in iceland? I should look up and see what it's like.

my home course is a bit of a bomb and wedge course, besides a few holes/tee shots you can generally hit it pretty wide

Yeah I have long given up on having the perfect swing just improve what I have. Im currently at 5 ish but goal is 3.3 for July and 0-1 for 2027.
My lowest is 1 ish but I have not played a lot for the last years but last summer I did finish few back and front 9 holes on even par but never 18 in a row.

Iceland has crazy good courses to be honest and my home course is number 1 in the country. Front 9 in Lava fields and Back 9 in links mode with the sea

this is golf in Iceland in general and has some good clips

This is my home course front 9.

wow those lava fields look crazy, what's the ruling if you ball finishes on them? is it a free drop nearest point of relief?

this my my home course

Play it as it lies and cry if you damage your club... That is why many locals have a dedicated rock club in their bags

Getting back into the game after a 30-year break.

I played a LOT when I was single…then family, house etc arrived and golf took a back seat.
My son recently took up the game and it renewed my interest. Got new clubs…wow, how clubs have changed! My Ping Eye 2 clubs were so state-of-the-art at the time! :ROFLMAO:
And…I just developed a case of golfers elbow. Damn, this hurts! No swinging for a while.

Ugh. That hurts. Theraband FlexBar was doctor-recommended to me and worked wonders.

I ordered two different strength Flex bars last night! Thanks for the confirmation, I read nothing but good things about them for golf elbow.
Turning 60 this year sucks.

Wtheeelly...
From everything I've seen of you here so far, I would never have thought you'd turn 60 (unless I missed the irony).

At least the weather was nice…absolutely got destroyed 8&6 in a two man best ball match yesterday.

You can guess someone's age from forum activity? Interesting. How old am I?

In Vegas this week for work and came in early Sunday to golf with a coworker at Bali Hai. Had a blast just being able to get on the course, coming from Chicago and playing my first round of 2026. Overall felt the course was overpriced for what it was ($288 for a Sunday morning round with rental clubs). It’s in decent shape but mainly I felt the layout was a bit boring. It felt like we played the same hole layout at least 10 times. We were crunched on time so needed something close but next time I’d factor in more time and venture out further from the strip. I pulled an image from Google because I didn’t take any pics (it was not this green and lush). Again, just happy to get on course and hit some balls…

Just tap it in! Easy peasy right? 🤣
As funny as it sounds I currently gain shots in all distances over 140 yards
I gain shots on the greens
But from 140 yards and in I really need to work on my game 😅

Now I just need to find out how to get the ball in the hole after I drive it 😂😅
And I have the opposite problem. Can’t get off the tee box decently but am fairly strong from approach to the hole. My tee shots are so terrible and then I’m playing catch up the rest of the way.
