CPC Move Updates (12 Viewers)

"Chapter Vegas"

Well I'm lost again...
Before my time, but the owners before CPC sold the company to a couple guys who moved all the equipment to Vegas, ostensibly to drum up casino business. Quality control tanked, and bad chips were delivered, and one of the owners (Red?) was unsympathetic.

The two Davids bought it from these Vegas guys a year later? And brought back Jim Blanchard who had run ASM before the sale, to get it back up and running.

Made in Vegas. Spinners on the right. Praise be, that we've moved up from .05/.10, the quarter isn't the workhorse, and they're not needed.

reading this thead, i'm glad i don't really need anything from CPC. for the sake of the hobby, i hope i'm wrong, but this is starting to look more and more like maybe somebody bit off more than they could chew. niche manufacturing can be brutal. the complete silence is quite discouraging compared to the previous owners.

I do find it odd that the owner joined the hobbyist forum that likely drives the bulk of their sales/word-of-mouth marketing over a year ago and doesn’t engage with the community and is still in “sitting out” status. Design competition never came to fruition, no status updates, etc. I get that the transition process is brutal but I paid @David Spragg maybe 15 months ago and have no end in sight for receiving my order.

As I said before, this is starting to feel like cut card group buy 2.0 but with real money at risk and we just want some honest transparency and engagement. Last update with timing was on 1/1 and said “best guess is that we'll be operational in around 30 days” but no updates since then.

It is strange. I understand the setup process, permits, equipment etc etc. But it doesn't take contractors, or permits to get your computer up and running and occasionally give some updates to customers or potential customers.

Before you get all angry at the new guy just remember who you placed your order with.
They took your money
They bought the raw materials for the chips with your money
They retained the exclusive use of the equipment until they produced your chips

“They” is not the new guy. New guy is just someone that made a weird deal.

I’m not angry at anyone. I was just asking if there have been any updates since the 1/1 post that mentioned being operational in around 30 days.

The details of how the transition was structured or what the funds were used for aren’t really my concern. I simply paid for a product over a year ago and, like others with open orders, would appreciate occasional updates on progress and timing.

Even a short post saying things are taking longer than expected would go a long way.

David had also mentioned previously that he planned to stay on to help oversee orders that were placed under him, which is why I tagged both David and Mike. Just hoping to hear if there’s any new information.

Not exactly correct. In the 1/1/26 email, prior to giving that best guess, he also said "I hate giving out updates and guesstimates while too much of it is out of my control."

Then there was another update on the CPC home page on 1/15/26. This one does not specifically state the "around 30 days" which by that time would only be 15 days. So obviously he was overly optimistic on 1/1.

I understand being frustrated waiting. I understand being frustrated over the lack of communication. Yes, he should take 15 minutes and post a new update on the home page, or here on PCF. But does anyone really think they're going to lose their money here? He's going to get this started up at some point, and you'll eventually get your chips. No way he made this investment in buying the company and moving it across the country just to rip-off a few of you guys off for a couple (many?) thousand bucks each.

1) no communication
2) suppose done the orders on old factory
3) we don't know if the quality will be same
4) my patience its OVER
5) someone else take my spot in line
6) i'm not the only one want money back
7) no trust on this new Owner

Period

He’s handled this very poorly. Ignoring PCF is wild. Not offering weekly/monthly updates while sharing some photos of the process would go a long way with his most passionate customer base that will keep him in business. Let alone taking 100% payments and not instant refunding before the move. I thought all previous orders were to be fulfilled before the move.

Other chip companies have folded when they attempted to move equipment. Isn’t that how CPC saved the previous business?

How is his business out of his control lol. This guy is way over his head and comes off annoyed/frustrated with his loyal fanatic customer base lol

His intention wasn’t ripping people off, but he’s not providing updates and could be failing, therefore everyone could be screwed $.

Been there and done that. This a real possibilty.

Not sure how the money for unfulfilled orders is being held but if I was on that list I would not be optimistic about ever seeing these chips. Hopefully that money is not being used to float this extended delay and unexpected costs.

Time and time again people (whether in personal relationships, business, etc) get frustrated, turned off and stop caring because of lack of communication and it's wild to me.

Ya I get that things will take longer than you expected and hoped, but to leave your loyal (and possible future customers, including me) in radio silence is unacceptable. It puts a sour taste in the mouths of current and long time customers and potential new ones. I learned a long time ago that if you just communicate with people, almost no matter the situation, it makes things better. People are very understanding, and they will feel better. But when you choose to not communicate, yikes.

It's wild seeing someone buy a business and turn such a small, simple thing into a huge misstep.

Yup…

I’d like to give Mike the benefit of the doubt that he’s clearly engineering/process minded and is focused on getting thing up and running and in the long term he’ll be putting out high quality clay.

But my gosh it’s a bizarre move to be doing all that and not squeeze in 15 min a week to post on PCF.

Maybe everyone’s money is at risk, that would suck cause CPC maybe can’t be saved again. As @ekricket rightfully observed, that’s really on the previous owners who selected Mike and took that reputational risk to the legacy of their business. Maybe they don’t care.
