Whats your favorite coffee? (3 Viewers)

Damnit @davislane sending me down the rabbit hole with that channel. I’m torn between buying more accessories for my BBE or dumping for a gaggia classic and grinder
Its just like chipping.....but cheaper.

Investing in a good grinder is never a bad idea. Start there first, then decide if the machine is still up to the task.

Picking a machine is the part Im struggling with to be honest. So many different directions to head in. Different work flows, different tech, different aesthetics, different budgets, its wild!

Bottomless portafilter, upgraded basket size, blind shaker. All things that seem would be a smart idea to add. But the Breville uses a smaller size portafilter so once I start going down that route I might as well buy the gaggia with the commercial portafilter size LOL.

Shit idk. I probably should’ve just went Gaggia from the jump. Sure I can just add a grinder now and then it’s kinda annoying having the big ass Breville with half the machine basically wasted taking up space due to the built in grinder.

Actually probably should’ve bought the setup @CraigT78 was selling not long ago

do your research. decide on setup and the just sell your setup on marketplace and rebuild.

Lmao I don’t think I’ll go that deep. I’m actually decently happy with my shots on these new beans. Pretty comparable with my local shop when it’s right. And actually better than when one specific barista is running the shots at the shop. But consistency seems to be my issue now.

I should also add my drink of choice isn’t really a typical iced americano. It’s basically just shots over ice. Very very minimal water and I just let the melted ice do it. So the taste is very apparent when wrong.

Even with all the fancy machines I got, this past year I discovered the Aeropress and haven't gone back yet. I liked it so much I even bought the XL size. When I travel I use the standard size and will pregrind some beans for the trip.

Started looking at hand manual grinders and the 1Zpresso Q is small enough that it fits in the plunger of the Aeropress.

LOVE my aeropress. I have a 1zpresso grinder as well, the x-ultra.

Good call. My buddy is buying my current setup. Time to research. Gaggia E24 (maybe future gaggimate mod) and either Timemore 064s or DF54 for the grinder is my current leaning. Can’t see needing much more, but might as well look.

Going to be buying one of these this year, really like the minimal maintenance.

Some may thinks it’s a sin; but I have a cup out of our nespresso machine in the shop at work most mornings and I enjoy it. We use the lavAzza pods and I like them a lot.

Id ger the silvia over the gaggia personally and sculptor 78s.

Silvia is another I was looking at but I really have zero use for dual boiler.
rancilio v6. single boiler. slighty better build quality but more exy. gaggiamate compatible. there is a video of someone who modded both. he talks about it the differences. youll be fine which ever you pick. it also could come down to aesthetics. if you go gaggia make sure its the copper boiler
Why the 78? $800 vs $400 is a big jump
all the reviews point to bigger burrs being better. not just timemore but in general. also you would want the 78s with ssp burrs for primary espresso setup.

other alternatives, check out the cf64v or the varia vs6
Mfer of course
they have been teasing it at all the trade shows since late last year. release it already.

Going to blend Sulawesi and Yemeni beans.
We will see tomorrow after grinding and running through the espresso machine.😬

Agreed. The latest version looks pretty nifty.

Given how much most people here have "invested" in poker chips that sit on the shelf most of the time, Im sure one can indulge on a decent grinder that will get used everyday.

I personally am waiting on the second generation scultpor 78s to be released.

Do we have any tinkerers in here? One can really go nuts, and start modding either a gaggia classic or rancilio silvia via the gaggimate project.
Got any more info on the second generation Sculptor? I’m going to pull the trigger on a Sculptor 078 any day now but if the second gen is imminent I’ll probably hold off. Currently using a Fellow Ode Gen 2 but it’s my second one (first was replaced under warranty). I’ve been very unhappy with the Fellow reliability and quality.

there is a link to a video of it being shown in a trade show last year

The more I learn the more I’m slowing down on pulling the trigger. Apparently the Timemore is geared more towards lighter roasts and cleaner modern espresso. I like my espresso very thick and syrupy and will just drink a pour over if I want a light roast. Any recommendations for a grinder for traditional espresso? Or is all that broscience?

Congrats on slowing down. Going down the rabbit hole is half the fun.

What you are referring to is the burr set. You can change the burrs some grinders come with to suit your preference. Timemore gives you the option to choose which burr set comes with your grinder for an additional fee if you choose a "fancier" burr set.

Personally Im more focussed on the performance, workflow and aesthetic of a grinder, especially one that allows me to change to the burr set of my liking.

If you want something relatively simple and focussed on espresso the latest barzata encore esp pro seems to be a good choice.

I went backwards to the Jura E8 and I absolutely love it.

Still having some hiccups here and there but finally starting to figure it out. Swapped out the Breville for an E24 and dedicated grinder. Difference is night and day with a good grinder.
