Thought it’d be fun for us to show our card protectors and maybe tell a story if they have sentimental value. I’ll start.
I use this Zippo as one of my card protectors; it belonged to my late grandfather who passed away two years ago. He was a Vietnam War Veteran and he was my hero but he was not a poker player. I found this is his box of nick-nacks that he kept in his closet. He wasn’t a gambler like my father’s side is and I chuckled when I found it because it seemed like he meant for me to have it; this zippo sure means a lot to me and is much more than a card protector. It took 15 years for the cancer to catch up to him along with a bad hip replacement but he fought to the bitter end, I carry this zippo in my pocket to every poker game so he is always with me.
Pictured below is his zippo and the last photo I got of him in what he called “my cool new shades” as well as two photos of him in Nam he was the strongest man I ever met.
