He had it. Then he folded it. He had to have had it in the first place to have folded it.

However, fair to say he never proved it to anyone else before the cards were mixed, so he has no witnesses.
It's poker. Everyone lies. We show at the end of the hand our cards and we hit the royal, we hit the royal. Past that, it's poker chat and stories. Like I said before. Fine. Ya folded a royal. But dat feeling when you flip over the two card royal on a dealt (or made) board... That. That's the story yer going for. In the end, that didn't happen. And that's fine. If he keeps playing he will hit the royal and this situation won't matter, as it won't be told, because it's not the same thing.

Goes to the question of what purpose we are considering.

Are we asking whether he had a royal or not for the purpose of record keeping or a bonus? We have to say he didn't because he can't prove it.

Are we asking for his own personal memory of having had a royal? That's between him and him, but assuming he was being honest, he did have a royal before he screwed up (royally, nyuk nyuk). He can count it just like he could count having any other hand that didn't get properly shown.

I've had 12 royal flushes in my life. Can I prove any of them? Not really. Some were witnessed by people I personally know, but it's anyone's guess how many of them actually remember. Some were just with strangers online. But I still had those royals.

yup - this is the nature of the question. We all get he didn't have one for the game. But if it was his first royal flush, can he say he had a royal flush (even though he fouled it before tabling the hand)?

Related, I had a dealer prematurely put out a straight flush for me recently as I was putting in a raise. It got shuffled back in the deck and re-dealt to just a straight. If it was a royal, would I have had a royal? I was destined for it, and it was the case for a brief moment before the river had to be re-dealt.

No. You get NOTHING.

That would not count as a royal IMO.

To annoy/tilt people, always say "I had 40% of a royal flush" every time you fold two suited Broadways.

I mean if you folded T9off to someone raising it to 4bbs and everone limping back to you, and end up rivering a royal, it doesn't count, so neither would this.

Source: had it happen to me before lol

Only this Friday night (at the home game) I folded A4o pre, telling the table (to some laughter/consternation/bewilderment) I was going to stay disciplined.

Of course there’s a 4 on the flop, a 4 on the turn and a 4 on the river. Did I get quads? No. Did I fish my hand from the bottom of the muck and windmill it across the table? Yes. Do I tell this story to random strangers on the internet? I’ll let you decide…

Did the OP get a Royal? If his Aunt had balls she’d be his uncle, as the saying goes.
