I was working with an AI tool, and it claimed that Scarney (Skarney) was invented by a card sharp named John Scarne. This sounded like something I would make up and tell my home game.

He wrote a book about his game. It is on eBay. I am tempted to buy it as the history of these games kinda interests me. That said, looks nothing like the Scarney we know.

Seems like an interesting guy

John Scarne (1903–1985) was a renowned American magician, gambling expert, and author known as the world's foremost authority on gambling and card manipulation. Born Orlando Carmelo Scarnecchia, he gained fame for his incredible sleight-of-hand, serving as a technical advisor for The Sting (1973). He taught troops to avoid gambling scams during WWII and authored many books, including Scarne's Complete Guide to Gambling

Scarne on Cards https://www.amazon.com/Scarne-Cards-John/dp/0451094468 was one of the first books on gambling I read. Some old school principals now days but a lot of great basic math theories covering poker and other cards games. and some good stuff on how to spot and look out for cheats. Haven't read it in years but it was a pretty good read.
