I was surprised too. Normally it's in a locked case. Before that they used to hide them in the back.

I think its just becoming much more available in Texas.
 
Stopped by the food store after work today. Hundreds of dumbasses fighting over bread and milk. I was there for something more important, zero line for these....

F*ck politics, f*ck privitization for profit, f*ck Texas. In no specific order.

If you have the bandwidth, keep in mind your local shelters to see if they have any needs, along with any elderly neighbors. If you’re in an area with high winds, even if they pay to be plowed it’s likely a continual battle, and an extra 30 minutes to blow a neighbor (giggity) can be literally life saving.

Looking forward to spending some time with the kids and neighbor kid sledding down our hills. And looking forward to not shoveling the drive by hand.

I'm convinced the local TV news gets paid by the grocery stores to hype the weather and proclaim a Doomsday storm evey so often.

They've been tracking this storm for at least 10 days. Ten days ago they told us in the Philly metro area that we would see 3 feet of snow. Some forcasters were saying 4 feet. Today they say we'll get six to eight inches.

Last Summer, someone on Facebook asked an on-air "journalist" for 6 ABC in Philly why the station talks about the Jersey shore but never mentions Delaware beaches. The station's cute weather and traffic women say they're headed to the Jersey shore on summer weekends. But they never mention Delaware.

The reason? "It's a paid thing," said the TV guy. (I think he was the morning traffic guy on the news.)

Turns out the Jersey shore beach town chambers of commerce pay the station to have the news crew say they love the Jersey shore.

This dispelled all doubt I may have had about the doomsday weather forecasts. They're just getting paid to send people hurrying to buy all the bread, milk, eggs and toilet paper.

We just don't get it often enough for government/utilites to spend any money to improve it for a day or two every couple of years. Roads are the same, 3 inches of snow can shut down a city for couple of days. However ice/freezing rain is just a killer as little as 1/4 inch of ice on power lines with a little wind can take down the power grid for extended periods. Not counting ice & heavy snow on trees, that fall on power lines.

My birthday is tomorrow. Used to snow on my birthday a lot growing up. It kills me that the street next to me in my neighborhood like 50 yards is on the Hospital power grid that never has the power go off. Same thing in my last neighborhood. I got plenty of bourbon though to drink in the dark.

Oddly enough, my wife was out this evening and said that all produce was cleaned out too. Bread and eggs picked clean too.

I'm more worried about potential ice accumulation with this storm on top of the foot of snow we'll still get. Your neck of the woods I'm more worried for even.

That said, people worry too much. I dont want to lose power but I have a plan in place if we do. Drip all the faucets and showers or if it gets really bad, shut off the water and purge all the pipes so they don't freeze and I fuck off to my parents' place (who have lost power only twice in 30 years, knock on wood) for a day or two.

Don't mind the snow, just hope the power doesn't go out due to the sleet/freezing rain.
 
Probably 1-2” of snow overnight here in Memphis. Sleeting now, hoping for no freezing rain. Hospital never closes, we’ll see how bad it is after I clock out!
 
As an Iowan, it's kind of strange to see half of the country in an ice/snow storm but we're not in it. Sure it's cold, but we always get winter days with high temps in the negatives. No snow forecast for us is nice. Stay safe out there, especially where the ice is.
 
Just a typical Saturday in January for us here for us, slightly colder. Supposed to get around 15" later, which really is not bad for us. I feel bad for all the southern states who usually don't get this kind of weather this bad. Stay safe out there!!

Whats it cost for plows up there?

There's a guy that does the houses on our street, if we use him for the whole winter it's $90 each snowfall.

Couldn't decide if that was horrid or great, so maybe it's just right.

We got a plow guy for the season a few times. It varies by who you get, and they're are all a little flakey and the quality of the plow job varies as well. We've paid between $200 and $400 for the whole winter. Problem is our driveway is on a ever so slight incline, going from a single car entry opening up to a dual car width. With both cars parked side by side the plow guy would come early in the AM, like 5am, and only be able to get behind our cars. I'd leave for work then come home and have to snowblow regardless. So, pretty pointless in a way. The other awful part about the plow guys we've had is they just don't give a fuck, they will destroy your lawn. So, now I only snowblow, that's it.

Snow blowers are pissa. Especially with Trufuel
 
And I live in Idaho, where we generally get snow and have a ski hill near town.

We have gotten .1 inches of snow this year. Lowest snowfall on record for the area.
