Questions about CPC (1 Viewer)

I am in the process of designing my first CPC custom set. Before I spend the money I wanted to ask the community a few questions to make sure the money was worth it. Most people say the quality of CPC is amazing....

Do they chips feel like real casino chips in your hands? The CPC chips I see people post look like the edges are quite sharp and don't have the roundedness of most casino chips. I don't know if that is just from slow chipping and playing over time. Either way, are they going to feel weird in my hands riffling them?

My most important question is about labels. I want to do a custom JACK casino label. Where should I go to get that done? I have worked with Gear labels before and they had the label I wanted already because it was a basic created label already. Will gear work with me knowing CPC to make a label for me with an extra cost? I was going to go with gear labels instead of getting the label inlayed from CPC.

Give me all your opinions concerning CPC. I am just trying to learn as much as possible before putting up 2k+

I think edge sharpness has some dependence on which mold is selected. My H-mold chips have very rough edges and tons of texture in general, my DieCar’s less so.

I thought the Ewing mold chips that got received before the shutdown looked much softer on the edges than other molds, but I defer to them for their take.

I think if you’re looking for something truly authentic feeling to casino Paulson’s, you should just get some Jack’s.

This is 100% true. CPC are much longer lasting with regular use. After years of weekly games I have a set that is buttery smooth and no evidence of wear.

I hope the factory successfully reopens because they are fantastic chips.

My ASM set (basically old CPC) was a weekly use set for 14 or so years. Hundreds of games, and they are the best shuffling chips I own. They have started getting naturally grown hooker juice on them.

They still look pretty much new past some edge wear.

Casino use isn't personal use. CPCs will last a lifetime as long as you don't drop em or toss them into the microwave or oven.

I think an inlaid chip is way more preferable to a labeled one. Labels are great when there’s no other choice.

CPC are lot different than Paulson.. texture, sound, colors..

There are days I feel CPC are the best, but in couple of days, I feel Paulson's the best.. its a cycle..

But I think CPC's will definitely last longer... But Paulson's have better/softer feel and value retention.. based on what I saw on this forum..

As others have said, get samples, and some molds feel softer than others. CSQ being a softer than H mold.

Also, take your time on a design and theme. I'm sure you can come up with something better than a jack replica. I'm the interim get a jack set and sell it when you're ready.

I have a CPC rounders sample that I use as a shuffle stack at my desk and love shuffling them. They do need a little break in period but edges are still great after shuffling 5 days a week for about a year.

Paulsons are also great but you’ll never get the fresh sharp edges like you would with new CPC.

I’d also recommend having CPC place the inlay rather than going with gear labels. An inlayed chip will always be more cohesive vs labels

Work with a designer here on the site to get your inlay design.

It’s much much better (and cheaper) to have your inlay design complete and baked into the chip. The print quality is great at CPC and the inlays will never come out (unless your prying under it with a knife or something).

If you make blank chips (no inlay baked into the chip) you will have to drill into the chip to get a recessed area for a sticker to be placed. So it will take much longer and you need to fork over even more money and more time.

@Phoe9x thank you that helps so much, I was going to just use labels but I will look to get the design inlayed instead. Are there any designers that you would recommend that wont charge me an arm and a leg. I already have a chip set design I just need a label design.

You can search around the customer chip design sub thread about people asking for designers and DM some of the designers to see if they’re up for work/quotes.

Last I recall seeing is that CPC is looking to finish out its current backlog before re-opening, which is sometime late this year? So you have plenty of time

If you’re looking for custom Jack artwork, gear might already have that set up.

If @CPC_Mike runs things anything like @David Spragg did, you won't be able to have JACK inlays made for your CPC chips. Anything copying an open casino or a closed one without being clearly a tribute (open/close dates as an example) probably wouldn't fly.


The joy of CPC chips is they are hand-made 100% custom chips. Take your time, play around with designs and spot patterns and make a set that is custom for you and your game. I have over 16k chips from CPC and ASM before them, over five different design concepts and love every single one of them.

If you want Jack chips, buy Paulson Jack chips. Strongly suggest not getting custom chips that are a tribute to a casino where the actual chips are readily available. Plus most Paulson chips will hold their value if you do some research and don't overpay. Custom CPCs will NOT hold their value, so if you get something that you get tired of down the road, it may be hard to sell them. Only buy customs that you plan to keep forever.

As others said, take your time and get samples. Work on a custom inlay design that is unique and meaningful to YOU. Once you get custom chips, then you can get custom Dealer buttons, cut cards, table toppers, etc.

The CPC chips are harder and will stay sharp longer. If you want chips with rounded edges, buy used Paulsons. My opinion - lightly used, leaded, THC mold Paulsons are some of the best chips you can buy, and there are many out there that cost about the same as custom CPCs, and will hold or even gain value over time.

You should definitely buy samples of what you're planning to buy. It'll save you a ton of time, stress, and money.
Paulson wears out faster and will feel like plastic over time. CPC definitely lasts longer and has a more clay-like feel. But only you can decide.
Just buy samples. There are tons of options on the forum.

To my knowledge, you cannot get a CPC chip made with a recessed inlay area to be labelled. You'd have to get inlaid chips, remove the inlay and re-label with more expensive labels. Why do that if you're ordering inlaid chips? Just get the inlay print you want when ordering the chips. If you insist on "Jack" inlays maybe you can adjust the name or as suggested earlier, put some tribute nomenclature on it and submit that to CPC for the inlay.

To be fair, you can get chips without an inlay, but still you would have to mill a recess in order to put your own stickers on. More time and more effort.

Blank chips are good for hot stamping.

I think from everyones feedback I am going to either design an inlay myself or work with a designer. I want custom chips for sure. I have a custom table that I built with my own hands and I would love to replace the felt with a custom felt that matches my chips too.

Also check into hot stamps - they can grow on you. Give it time, CPC isn’t taking new orders right now anyway. Good Luck. I cannot wait to see your mock ups.

Here are my custom CPC (formerly ASM) chips I received in 2003. These (mostly the whites and reds) were used weekly for 4-5 years straight then once a month of every other month for another 7 years with a break if about 5 years in between. The sharp edges are slightly dulled. You may be able to see how sharp the higher denominations are. One thing to consider…if you will use them a lot…is they get tacky like casino chips and aren’t the easiest to clean.

I ordered BR Pro ceramics a few years back and love that I can throw them in a bucket of soapy water over night, dump them in a colander, and dry them in a few minutes en masse with bath towels with out worrying about any type of damage. Gets all the nasty hand oils off them. I do this once or twice a year and I use them every month with games that last 6-8 hours.

I also just ordered a set of Tina’s. If you aren’t sure of your design, I’d recommend Tina hybrids that will look and feel 98% like clay chips for upwards of 1/10th the price.
