Stumbled across a local specialty store that actually has a decent selection of American Whiskeys (a rarity here in Switzerland). And they do regular tasting nights…

They had a huge selection of open bottles in store to sample - tried a barrel pick from Michigan with them before running off for my haircut.
Made a lot of Old Fashioneds with this, but thoroughly enjoyed neat as well.
Quite good for $60. First Old Fitz bottle I’ve bought.
Is the color off a bit in that pic? Sauce looks dark dark...

Yes everything about the colors here is fucked. My phone doesn’t seem to like dark lighting and it’s weird grey overhead cause I was taking quick photo in chilly living room. And the glass is tinted

Pound per pound ounce per ounce store pick bottles of 4R give me everything I want out of bourbon. As much as I want to boo-hoo the variations of yeast and grain recipe there really is a significant difference between all of them. That's said they all are great though. I will stump for OESF. This one is from a local store to me that stopped doing this program because they couldn't get exactly what they want. It is still a great store so if you're in DC go to this place.
This particular bottle is mid zone for the style. Little bit of brown sugar here. Maybe slightest hint of cinnamon. The ABV is hidden very well.
As in aside, I appreciate all the pretty pictures y'all put up, but you need to talk about these bottles a little bit more

Feeling frisky for, uh, Christmasy. Popped the cork on this and for all that is sacred and holy this is F.U.C.K. Yes. Port and Scotch single malt go together like hope & dreams, sex & drugs, and rock & roll. The combination of the light smoke in the stewed fruits and the winter winter winter are unbeatable. Jaysus. I was lucky to get it when I did, but it wasn't all that crazy expensive. If I tried to get another one now, people were laughing in my face.
