Musky Jacks V2 (CPC) (2 Viewers)

Beautiful set, speaking as someone who's goal it is to actually catch a musky in my beloved St. Lawrence River!! They are elusive. Any of those lures, bigger in reality, would catch a lunker!

I'm too late to the party but speaking as a fisherman, the scroll mold mimics fishing line.

Interestingly, I've always preferred flow-y look more than a box-y look. My wife and I never agree on cars because of this (she's a box-y person). If it were my set I'd go with scroll. But ... alas ... it isn't. Go with your preference for sure!

True work of art! HoF material.:cool

I suspect this set will outlive you (have no idea how young you are). Have you ever considered putting some sort of unique mark into your label design to put your permanent finger print on your designs into perpetuity?

Look forward to seeing pic of the living, betting reality!

Have you even picked out the tackle box that is going to be the chip case for this set?

Card room or cardroom?

It’s your gambling establishment so you get to choose. I went with ‘cardroom’ for mine.

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/cardroom

*this will make exactly 0.001% difference to the design outcome. But ye know, PCF.
Yeah, know both are used. I went with card room as I felt it leaned toward a less established vibe, but went back/forth.

And good suggestion @HiveKueen and appreciate the comments. On personal touches, I think I've gone as far as I want to with personal ties, but fun ideas nonetheless. I strove for a bit of subtlety there, but still honoring well. On mold, we'll see - pretty locked for now though after playing around with mold samples and feedback from family.

@WedgeRock - No joke. Have been thinking through that, lol.

What size are we talking for the set, how many chips /racks in total?

Are you thinking custom case (ala Alec) or retrofit something else?

Yellow $1 is still a somewhat “normal” thing to do imo. Beautiful and original set. Nice work.

Final mockup. Changes likely unnoticeable to most, but polished up inlays to get ready for print (whenever orders open).
  • Adjusted overall margin of the inlay for print
  • Customized the denom font (original aspects of the stock font I selected bugged me)
  • Changed out Cabin/Card Room and Land O' Lakes Font
  • Adjusted size, location, and stroke on lures

Ok, let’s get to V18. I know you have it in you. Looking back - I really liked this touch, with the hook going around the C:

Why change… hmm?

Yeah, I liked the hook integration, the original inlays had the hooks all at different locations as well. When I updated the inlays most recently I moved the lures up slightly to deal with margins, etc.. which led me away from being able to do that well across most inlays so just dropped the concept. Was fun, but a small detail that I was ok sacrificing. I could likely figure it back out if I wanted enough, but happy with where things are now and don't feel a kick to go back.

And on set-size/case.. TBD. I like to over order chips, so guessing I'll end up in the 1200+ range, but OK if my case ends up being smaller (e.g. 800-1000). Likely will do something hand-made if not a retrofit of another case. Not in a rush, likely will start that next year.. guessing it'll be quite a while before I can still have these made!

From the add ons and secondaries I kept ordering my CPC set is around 1900 chips to be able to host the 2 tables I never do...

Just seeing this. This is lovely. Can’t wait to see the final product

I like the Scroll mold. Both great molds with very different feel. Some of the most amazing sets have been created on DSQ. Can't go wrong with either mold imo, just have to go with what feels best for you. Looking forward to seeing the finished product.

Hmm, playing with a lighter chip lineup. Inlays are just placeholders while on my phone (would rework to match still and go shaped).

After getting my recent sets, debating something with a bit more contrast.

Simmering.. nope. Fun colors, but lose the theme/cohesion, and that's more important to me here. Glad I mocked up though to see.

V6 - changelog... think this might be the final (although most changes likely unnoticeable to anyone but me):
  • Cabin & Cardroom font and size adjusted
  • Land O' Lakes font and size adjusted, removed "WI"
  • "5" and "2" denom font edited slightly
  • Seaweed background removed, gradient added from border (think it removes some clutter)
  • Edit: Forgot.. updated NCV chip as well. Like this spot better.

Yeah this is fantastic but the $1 is a concern as is all yellow cpc chips. But it’s also the best lure so I don’t think you should change it!

Hmm, glad I tried the above, made me rethink a few things.

25c: Trimoon to 3DSA316
$5: Mandarin base to Retro Red (Should have done this before), and went with wider spots (4DSDA316 vs 4DSDA18)
$25: Out with saturn in with dayglo yellow
$500: Out with original pink NCV, $500 will take it's place.. no need for both.
Overall: Slight tweaks to denom fonts

Think this works better.

Love the updates! Have you considered using light blue/white on the edge spots of the 25c?

Very cool chip set and really nice to see how they evolved.

I have the feeling that less might be more on the 5 and the 100. The grey spots look a bit like the fifth wheel on both chips. Did you try to use just black and white as edge spot colors on the 5, even if it means dropping the pink that's on the lure?

For the 100, a 3183DS18 might just be the right chip, if CPC could make one (you can use 3V123DS18 var. 2 in the designer to see what it would look like).

Edit: I noticed that I got some colors wrong when I first looked at the chips on my mobile; what I thought to be black and grey on the 5 seems to be retro blue and imperial blue on another screen. Same questions apply, though. :)

Thanks, both - relooked at all suggestions (mocked up below too). All suggestions look good (and have toyed previously with some of those aspects), and could see them both work out in sets. Will stick with original colors, but were nice to relook!

25c: I like the light blue, but stands out too much IMO vs the rest of the lineup.
$5: For sure think the alt white/dark blue is more classic.. but just feels like it stands out as less playful vs the neighboring $1/$25 and a step down from the $1.
$100: Didn't think of this spot variation, and do like it. That said, prefer original still - think it ties better with the overall progression I'm going for up to the 500/NCV.

But again, all good suggestions - thanks!!

That is some kind of the challenge you have with this set, if you want all chips to be equally colorful. Right now you have three very colorful chips, and you even repeat peach and green on all of them. And then you have three chips with rather muted colors, each with a white edge spot, which does not add any color.

Question is: Fight it or embrace it? Luckily you alter between "extra colorful" and "somewhat muted" - I am guessing that this is intentional. I like that; I believe it increases playability, because it adds another distinguishing characteristic to neighboring chips.

Yeah, intentional. 25c/5/100 and 1/25/500 are intended to play off each other both in spot type and colorway.

1 is has a peach spot though, whereas 25 and 500 use arc yellow.

But in the end, I'm finally done with the set (except for possibly a slight font tweak to the "2"s). Appreciate the comments!

Updates over the past few months that I've made while waiting for orders to open (sounds like very soon per Mike's email).
  • Mold: Big one. Changed mold to HHR. Before fishing was Jack's main hobby - it was dog trials with his horse. He also was the president of an Ad/marketing agency and was known to wear cowboy boots with business attire. I debated this one at length, because only I would understand the connection/reference - but fuck it - most fitting for me, and I love the mold.
  • Denoms:
    • $1: Changed out light green/arc yellow for dayglo green and dayglo peach.
    • NCV: Changed out Arc Yellow for dayglo Peach.

Liar! 😅

Cratty, do you have your designed chips on an iPad and just display them on your desk while on the computer, or on a table in front of you while watching TV and just look at them for hours? I find myself doing this and sometimes it lets me finally think of something new or finally decide I like them the way that they are 😂

I just have my color samples that have been sitting on my desk for the past couple months

Well, in my opinion, there's not much to dislike about the HHR mold. Great look, great feel and is on the upper end of avg/weight per chip = great mold.
