This idea has been kicking around in my head for 12 months or so. It actually predates both of my other custom sets.

I really like the idea of a Cali coloured cash set and in particular one with a 3D14 spot pattern. Think Huntington Park or Lakeshore Inn.

This set would compliment the Lake Kawana (Dunes inspired) set, which admittedly does already cover 5c to 5K, with a .25/1/5/20/100 breakdown. Spot colours are fluid at this point but it will definitely be Red/Blue/Yellow/Black/White or variants there of.

I think I’ve got the inlay pretty close to where it should be but, as always, I’m putting it out to the design gurus to critique and supply suggestions on improving it.

I’ve whipped up two (similar) versions so far so let me know if I’m hitting the mark. Ideas on fonts are appreciated also as that is one area that I have struggled with.

Big fan of the design, also like V2. What would it look like if you increase the denom size slightly?

I like it! The background pattern really does it for me. Second one is more visually appealing.

Larger denom and more tranquil (?) water and trying a different background pattern.

I know it reads "rougher waters" but I like the original version of this design the best.
Yeah, there's a fair bit I like about the first draft. The background meshes nicely with the main art and when you shrink this down to inlay size I think it looks much cleaner.

Fair chance, I'll tinker with it some more but still end up back where I started. :D

So, just for shits and giggles, and it's a light Friday morning work wise, here are some variants on wave height and frequency. Shrinky dinked to roughly inlay size (on a monitor). On the phone, they are smaller than inlay size.

The original versus flatter and then more frequent.

I think they all work in one form or another. Do I need a poll on this? :)

I love the "watermark"-like wave pattern on the background, but not sure if they'll be visible at actual label size. Will they be 7/8"?

If I shrink my view of the labels to approximately 7/8" they're barely noticeable, and also the "$" almost looks like an "8". At the smaller size, the wavier waves look slightly more busy than the smoother waves. Might also help to have the three shades of blue be slightly more separated from each other, with the top wave a little closer to "CARDROOM".

Yes these will be the standard 7/8”. Either on a Tina hybrid or an over labeled Paulson.
  • Darkened the watermark,
  • Made the $ a little larger, and
  • Separated the waves slightly.
Side by side comparison.

Looks better but the dollar still looks like an 8 though, it’s a bit of a curvy font.

I don't actually think it's that big of a deal, especially with the very large "1" or "5" or whatever the actual denom is right next to it. It was just something I noticed...

I think "KAWANA WATERS" can probably be bumped up slightly (without throwing off the design) to help it be a little more ledgible at 7/8" with the narrow font.

Darkening the watermark really looks good
Agreed, has almost an engraved currency watermark look to it!
