Why is baseball the best sport on the planet? Discuss. (11 Viewers)

So me, always being on the cutting edge, recently started watching this guy's videos while playing online poker. Matt Antonelli was a first round draft pic and played in the majors for a couple of years. 7 years ago, (see the self-deprecating humor? being on the cutting edge? 7 years later?) he put out a ton of content about various esoteric topics in baseball. Super interesting stuff, at least to me. He still posts baseball content now, but 5-7 years ago, it was almost like an AMA, and he'd spend 10-15 minutes covering topics that people asked him about.

Here are some of the more interesting episodes I recently watched:

You have no idea how good you have it. That stadium is fantastic. Go to a ball game in Arizona and you're a real fan.

Two of the three bottom stadiums/stadia aren't being played in right now.

Chase Field is definitely hurting. The dome opened a couple nights ago on its own in the middle of a game. Sometimes they can’t close it. Middle of a game with the dome closed the AC periodically just stops. The acoustics are awful for a concert by all accounts. Decent sitelines and prices though - it helps that the team is like the Suns - fairly good on paper and very meh in actual play.

I hope they do the right thing and build them a new park and don’t punt them the way they did the Coyotes (though the Coyotes sort of dug their own hole on that one).

Here’s the part of the game I love.

He fouls off 9 straight pitches and Megill waits until the last second before firing the ball into the dugout and asking for a new one. Arenado waits a moment at the plate with Megill clearly frustrated and steps out to replace his bat (which ostensibly could be cracked after he fungo-bat swung on repeated 101-102 mph four seamers). He settles back into the box finally and Megill leaves another FB just out over the middle of the inside half and Arenado slaps a ground ball over the 2nd base bag to get on base.

I can understand why people think baseball is boring, but the game within the game is actually pretty great if you pay attention..

Great analogy. The game within the game has always separated the casual viewer from the die hard fans.

Megill facing last batter after bouncing a couple curves in the dirt and one gets away from Contreras to advance the runners to 2nd and 3rd.

Facing the 9 hitter with Donovan (solid hitter) on deck, Megill (clearly amped up) starts him off with 2 fastballs, 1-1, and then throws the curve and gets him to swing at it low to make it 1-2.

What do you throw next? What is Winn looking for?

Having 2 pitches to waste I'm burying another hard curve low for my 1st pitch then going with the gas

After you bounced 3 in a row in the dirt and let the runners advance when one got away with trying run on third? And you throw 102?

Contreras was having a moment with blocking these. He fired a ball back to Megill clearly frustrated.

Only in baseball does a team bring up their best and most exciting prospects, Sweep the dreaded Yankees, and then trade their best player for 4 stiffs after the game . Unfucking believable.
Well, he was a clubhouse problem and refused to help the team out by playing first. He did it to himself. I give the Sox credit for not putting up with his bullshit.

Or you could have told your son that it was to save money because he made so much and the team just spent a ton of money buying the street behind the park to build stuff

Or.....in a similar deal where the Harry Frazee sold Babe Ruth to finance his play, No, No, Nanett, John Henry freed up money to pay midfielder Florian Wirtz $100 mil to transfer to team Liverpool in the Premier League
