Chopping first in my first tourney played in almost a year calls for a celebratory nightcap. Being able to play long, back to back nights over a weekend was the last hurdle for me to being fully back since October!

I'm wondering, has the rest of the country been flooded with the Colonel, or just Texas? We got word last week (in some bourbon forums) that E.H. Taylor Small Batch is no longer allocated. In fact, people are buying cases of it in Houston! My local store offered me as many bottles as I wanted, at $54. My bar is pretty well stocked, so I just took this one, plus the Prideful Goat 6 yr rye that I'm also looking forward to trying. It was on sale at $50, so a pretty cheap haul for some good juice!

That awkward moment when "there's just a small pour left in this bottle" unexpectedly becomes "thank goodness I have nowhere to be and nothing to do tonight." :ROFLMAO:

I honestly thought there was less than 2 oz. left in the bottle, so I just poured it into the glass without really looking. When I saw how much was in the glass, I was properly happy that I was already done for the day and could settle in with this and watch the replay of the F1 race from earlier in the day.

This was a banger of a bottle. I'm happy I bought two and have the other one still tucked away.

If anyone comes across Star Hills Farms wheated that seems to be hitting shelves sporadically I’d love a bottle. On a serious wheater kick and I’ve heard good things. A friend found one at a TW in NJ so hoping I’ll come across some myself. Will check my own TW tomorrow but website doesn’t list it

These hit the Chicagoland area in larger quantities than expected ($99). I'm pretty impressed with it and the story behind the star hill farm series. There's some good info here:
This is maker's first release where they did not rotate the barrels used at any point during their aging. I found the lack of corn to allow brighter red fruit to come out on the palate with a nice rich oak on the backend, reminiscent of the oak on MMCA 24. I think the palate is more similar to the MMCA 23 release, sharing the brighter punchier profile. The malt is subtle but is definitely there and adds to the complexity. Im very curious to see what the future releases bring.

Hope you find one!

Just getting back from picking up my son from his freshman year of college, I wanted to dig out my JD12 to celebrate but was way too tired lol. Toasting with this spicy gal instead, cheers!

I've seen a few bottles of small batch at my local. That doesn't happen often.
