Controversial Chip & Poker Opinions (18 Viewers)

Why are you even on PCF?

I’m not sure if you’re making a joke or not. But there are plenty of different ways to approach this hobby. I’m mostly here to learn about casino chips and to help other people to do the same.

Chip/rack stackers. Really? To me these have always seemed like the most unnecessary item of all time not to mention they can't be great for the environment.

It's really not that hard to take barrels out of a rack and stack them is it?
100% agree.

The most unnecessary action of all time is to oil chips. Fuck sakes, just play them and they'll be fine.

The only thing worse than a greased up chip is a greased up Scotsman.

Its a niche group inside a niche hobby. You’d think there’d be some sort of camaraderie, respect, or something.

im not tooting my own horn, before I knew better many years ago I’ve sold samples while buying/selling things to try and see diff stuff.

But now every year or two when I clean out stuff, I message all the owners/wanted ads with my duplicates and send everything out no cost.

Or if I’m lazy, I’ll post all my duplicates and send them for free to collectors.

All of my Aussie Nights samples (6) in total were given away for free - including shipping. No buttons or samples have ever been for sale. If I see one floating around for sale there will definitely be an angry face emoji!

I would 100% do either not one single sample, or a specific number of free samples like you.

Both are the only ways you’ll forever know where every chip of your set is.

I have no judgment on the people who want to sell theirs at the onset. My stance when dealing with my own set was I wanted them to be rare so that they'd be appreciated more - whether or not I accomplished that, nobody knows! But they're definitely rare :)

Yours is the only way that makes them literally priceless!

You couldn’t be more wrong. They’re an absolute game changer in preparing for a family shoot.
First of all, please don't shoot your family...or do you mean go shooting with your family?

I look at stackers like self driving cars. Most people don't know how to drive so maybe it's a good idea for them. I still don't think it's a necessary tool especially for how frequently it's gonna get used. (Risk vs reward)

My pics are definitely not perfect like auto-tune or a click track. There are imperfections and that's ok. At least I don't use filters like a bunch of you iPhone users? (Segway to another controversial opinion lol)

I may have overused my os…

I bought mine years ago when what’s his name still sold them. Figured they’d be another dumb fairly useless but fun poker chip accessory. But the time and pain they cut from arranging sets compared to doing it by hand really is amazing.

Not much of an analogy, where’s the risk here? There’s only reward. If they were expensive, I’d be there with you but they are practically free. You’re missing out, is all I’m really trying to say.

I believe & agree I would love to use them as I thoroughly enjoy taking chip pics!

The risk I refer to is extra unnecessary plastic. I'll get over it.

The difference is about 60 min vs >10min for a family chip photo

Maybe u enjoy walking 60 mins to work but I sure do enjoy driving to work within 10min instead

Speaking of unnecessary plastic, I vote everyone is limited to one set of poker chips. Think of the turtles!

Speaking of which... I hope my teenage Mutant Poker Turtles set arrives soon.

I think @TheRealTeddyKGB should be commended for finding what seems to be one of the most innocuous and ‘cheap’ things in this hobby (that I didn’t even know existed until I seen @Sparkynutz for sale thread) - was actually contentious.

Bravo sir, you win the controversial thought of the day :)

What filter should I use on my iPhone again to make my chips look prettier?

I apologize for this, but we need to have a conversation.

Unfortunately, everyone here has been wrong for forever. We have gone too far. We have overengineered the solution to a very small original problem.

SHIPPING.

Guys, I appreciate that the chips you're sending me would make it through WW3, as that's not as far fetched these days. But........I can't get in these mothers. Like, maybe I need to ask how everyone on the forum opens up their chips, cause I'm barely getting through with scissors and knives. Is everyone just Exactoknifing and scalping through these boxes?

I mean I'm opening ish and once I finally get into the box, there's packaging then the tape layer then the bubble layer, then the layer of saran wrap over the chips (that they melted with a hair dryer over the chips), then the plastic wrap depressurized bag thing whatever, then finally you get to the chips but they're in carbonite.

I appreciate y'all shipping safely! But feel free to let my chips breathe a lil bit.

Yes. When I’m shipping, theres the amount of packaging that I know is enough, and then there’s the amount of packaging your typical insane PCFer (who keep their sets in waterproof shockproof trunks and their singles sealed in capsules) want to see. And since one of those crazy people now owns the chips, I try to overdo it.

Given the amount that some sets sell for, I am honestly surprised nobody has invested the $25-$30 for an airtag/luggage tracker.

Know where your shipment is until it gets to it's destination - where that chipper could sent it out with their next shipment. For frequent buyers/sellers, this almost sounds like a no-brainer.

I don't actually own any luggage trackers, so maybe they don't work as well as I suspect.

Recently had someone ship me an AirTag to put in the package they bought from me. Good move!

Recenlty a buyer had me ship the set including an air tag he sent me. I’ll be doing that as well in the future.
