I'd planned to add on a couple of denoms to my set, a 25k and 100k.

These plans were derailed with news that Dr Ott's League of Extraordinary Incompetence had destroyed the mold, so I shelved the extension.

Now that the CPC forces of goid have triumphed, I'm thinking about revisiting this one next year (subject to mold/production availability).

As a refresher...

Current denoms in my set:

And here's where we got with the new chipes:

Having done a dry run of the 25k on the diecar mold, it was a shit idea - nowhere near enough contrast.

I'm scrapping thatspot combo.

Want to keep the 100k colours/spots but open to it shifting to 25k instead.

Any ideas for alternatives for the 25k and 100k?

Don't want to duplicate base colours and keen to have a solution that doesn't jar with the existing chips...

Fire in! :)

What a great base set! I'm a big fan of those.

Ever think about going with a larger chip size to make your new big boys really stand out?

Pulling out the 6QADS18! I've always loved this set. Nice to see an add on in motion.

I get so confuzed with these: 6QADS18. But great addition these will be. That 100K is so sick. Awesome.

I have to confess, I only know that is the name because it is my commemorative chip spot and that's what David told me the spot is named! I have no idea what all the nomenclature actually means.

My take:

6: 6 spots
Q: ?? not sure about this
A: alternating colors per spot
D: double (two colors per spot)
S: split
18: 1/8" spot

At least this is how it works in my head for most of the pattern names [3D14: 3 spots, each with two 1/4" spots]

I think I got this...
6QADS18
6 Spots locations
Quad colored
Alternating colors at each spot location
Dual spots at each spot location
Split spots, with base material in the middle
1/8" spot width

one of my all-time favorite sets is getting better. can't wait to see what you come up with for the 25k, Toby.

Super awesome, the first time I saw this set I thought it was the CAT's meow (you probably never herd that before...no pun intended) I wished I could have gotten a sample set.......

These are a great add on....

Such an excellent set. One of the few custom sets that I wish I had thought up first. So well designed and executed.

Oh man. I remember these. I loved them! And, yes, I have a black cat. :)

Hey man, not seen you in a while!

I sent you a T5 a while back - not sure if you got it..? :)

Thanks for the suggestions I think my head's a bit scrambled from winding up for Xmas today (thru to Jan 12th, baby!!!) so I'll come back to these with a new head on. :)

Ditto the above! Thanks for the input. :)

Cheers, Jack. I thought it was a pretty decent first stab at a custom set. I've learned an awful lot during and since the process...

...which is one reason I'm in two minds about adding on or putting the money towards an all-new MD-50 cash set... :)

Fast forward and I'll done both, so I guess that's academic.

Forgot to say I'll prob get a new 'Super champ' label made up for one of the chips.

I'm in the market for suggestions for the label:

E.g.

'Ultimate boss'
'Top cat' (too obv)
'Ninja worrier' (play on 'warrior')

Dig in with suggestions!

Cheers

I prefer 'the cat's bollocks', and spoonerisms! :D

Thanks man.

First: beautiful set. Congrats and kudos.

Second: I think the red base is nice, but the base on the 100,000 is too close the blue & green (espeically the green).

Have you experimented with something in the range of the purple/lilac you introduced on your 500?
Or, crazily enough, a creamy white, like the buff coat of an off-white siamese?

Please share any thoughts on a replacement for the T25k

Also in the market for a new name for a 'Grand Champion' chip.

I'll turn these into a sample set comp, one each for the T25k chip and one for the 'Grand Champion' label. :)

Have at ye!

Are you wanting to keep the colors and just change the edge spots?

Wanna keep the colours/spots of the T100k but that is about it. Open to suggestions irrespective. I like the T100k but it's not set in stone...

Well the 100K looks terrific so I wouldn't want to change it. To be honest the 25K looks good but the 2V12 doesn't fit to me when your 1000 is a 3V12

True dat. The contrast with those colours is also a no go - on mockup they look distinct but in the flesh it's too difficult to tell them apart.

You've come up with another good reason to scrap it. I think a new T25k is in order. Subject to the awesomeness of the replacement chip, it may become the T100k and the T100k become the T25k...

Maybe two sets of very contrasting colors on the 100K? Like one that is two tones of green and another that is two tones of lavendar? Did you ever see my commemorative using the same spot?

I have in idea for your 25k but can't post mock up right now.

If you can imagine though

1/2 pie light light blue/dg green with 2t18/14/18 (similar to paulson spot 17) bright white/Saturn yellow/bright white

Probably a level 20

This spot but only 2 spots not 4,

Good call, Paul.

That's a sweet chip.

That's a great chip but I'd like to avoid using the same spot combo twice if poss... :)

Not suggesting using it twice! Just illustrating how I used the four spot colors. It's actually a tough chip because four spot colors can be difficult to meld.

Since the four shades of green were too close in reality I am suggesting using two contrasting shades of green for three spots and two other contrasting shades for the other three spots. I haven't played with it but I'm curious how something like lavender and purple might work for the other two spots.

FWIW I like the chip Stocky mocked a lot for your 25K as well

Just waiting for the wedge….sigh

Actually, I'm not. It would cost me an easy $5k.

I'd planned to add on a couple of denoms to my set, a 25k and 100k.

sample_set_cats.jpg

One of the sets evah! Always love to see these, Toby, and of course you'll need new J5 kitty poses for the denoms.

The first chip is a stab at a 25K.

Love your spot combo for the 100K, but am nervous that imp. blue would be too close to the 5K. So maybe chocolate as a base for the 100K? I can't mock that spot combo but sort of merge these two chips using spot colors from the yellow, green, and/or blue families.

On second thought, a butterscotch base 6QADS18 would look great I think and fit well as sort of a gold color 100K with blue and green family spots.

This is a classic set! Are you going to use the same cat face on the 25,000 and 100,000? as you did on the 5000?

Label suggestion:

Panthera Leo Atrox
or just
Panthera Leo

The second one is Latin for the "king of the big cats" and is the scientific classification of the lion.

The first one is the scientific classification for giant prehistoric American cave lions / cave jaguars, which were 25% bigger than modern lions, and may have come in black.

(Proper scientific names would only capitalize Panthera, but I think the label would look better with genus, species, and sub-species all capitalized.)

Goid point about the blue/purple. That could be tricky in low light. Good call - I'll dig out my colour sample and have a closer look at that.

I've never been sure about Butterscotch or Chocolate as they're, erm, brown! I suspect I'm guilty of lack of vision but always felt brown base was maybe a waste of a chip? I've never physically seen any in play so fully concede this more than likely my issue!!! :D

A Retro Lavender or a pink chip is a distinct possibility - good vontrast there with the existing chips. :) Cheers for posting the mocks! :)

This is a tricky one. I figured we'd have to use the same as the 5k. I'm not sure if other poses would fit. Need to chew that one over some more...

I like the Latin but reckon it'll be something in English, to follow on from the champion chip (realise no pics here of that so will dig out the mockups for reference).
