FREE loan of Paulson clay and Bud Jones plastic samples, especially for new chippers! See inside for rules.... (3 Viewers)

This has the potential to be the greatest game of telephone ever played. I just hope you dont end up with cardinals dice chips, ying yang, and ben franklins by the time it gets back to you lol. But honestly this is a very generous and awesome thing you are doing, You should add a requirement that everybody photographs and posts the samples before shipping them on to the next person.

This is not meant to come back to me, It's meant to circulate among the membership perpetually. Unfortunately 2 out of the 3 sets have been lost (one by member who fell out of contact, one thanks to USPS that destroyed one box in transit).

The integrity and usefulness of the sample set is in direct proportion to the integrity and usefulness of forum members.

Can you list the contents of the current samples package in circulation? I may be able to add additional sample chips to be included in the package by mailing them to a US reviewer.

I know it has expanded some since I started it. Perhaps @studog can take pictures of the contents and post it here so we can confirm/update chip identities.

I can and will. Tracking has the package still in Chicago. This is the Canadian long weekend, so I don't expect to receive the chips until Tue/Wed next week.

Chips arrived yesterday, but had to wait until today to pick up the package from the post office.

I'll get some pictures up over the weekend.

Can we get an update studog? I know someone was looking to assemble another set and if we could get an eta when you'll be shipping it to the next person, that would be fantastic.

Are you guys just looking to see what was included in the set that I sent out? If you have a list of what was originally included I can probably confirm if those were still there when I had them :)

That's too bad, this travelling Sample set really helped me when I first got started.

What's the procedure if the loaner chip set is no longer in circulation? We're coming up a month of radio silence and I know besides getting the current set circulated, there was also some interest in assembling some additional sets.

There is no procedure. We're potentially screwed.

Thats unfortunate of @studog as he was messaging me almost every other day asking me when I'd ship them out... for like three weeks :(

Funny how it was important for him to be shipped out but now the silence is deafening.

Two points I wanted to bring up and see what people were thinking.

1. How would you feel about setting up a deposit system? It would definitely add some complexity to the process but I think the loaner chip idea is too good to let a few bad apples ruin it for everyone. This way we can make sure the chips move along at a steady pace.

2. Can we put together a list of chips for replacement sets? It would be fantastic if we could get some sets donated but I would also be willing to purchase a piecemeal set and donate that to get the system going again. Also if anyone who had the previous sets in their possession could let me know what I may have missed, I would really appreciate that.

Loaner Chip Nominations

Paulson
Bud Jones
B&G
Abbiati
Matsui
China Clay (I know the general gist of these but if anyone wants to chime in on a more specific china clay chip, let me know)

If there are any other chips that should be included in the set, please let me know.

I have a CPC Atlantic Club sample set, 8 chips, that I can donate.

I don't have any spares really, but some Sunfly should be in there. They are great, but not enough out there for people to know about.

Hello all. Apologies for the radio silence; life happens.

Update: I have the chips; they are safe. I am on vacation next week and intend to ship them to the next person in line this weekend.

@quixotemi I checked our DMs. I sent you my address on Jun 2, 2023, and asked once for an update on Jun 20, 2023. I'll let readers decide if that's every other day.
In this thread I see I asked @allforcharity if the chips were in the mail on Jun 12, 2023. Then posted an update on Jun 26, 2023.

I am hoping to upload photos of the chips as earlier promised tonight. There's 100 of various sorts, in varying conditions from minty to worn 'n torn. Most of them are clays (I think?) or ... plastics? I'm not sure what those are. There's a URL in the package too: https://tinyurl.com/pcfsampler

Update: Oooh, I hadn't looked at the URL before; it's a google sheet that includes photos. Lemme verify the contents against the list.

Chips update:

#5 - there are 7 instead of 5
#6 - there are 6 instead of 5
#9 - there are 7 instead of 5
#13 - there are 8 instead of 5
#14 - there are 3 instead of 2
#17 - there are 6 instead of 5
#19 - all 6 chips are present, but it's one each of various denominations
#20 - there are 7 instead of 5
#22 - not an update, just a note that this chip is _weird_
#26 - present, but is a 25 cent denomination not $1 per the sheet. 25 cent is confirmed by the photo in the sheet though, so just a sheet typo
#27 - MISSING
#29 - 5 of the 11 are a matching set of 500s, the other 6 are various denominations including a 500 that's a different shade of pink
#33 - all 8 chips are present, but it's one each of various denominations
#36 - someone(s) added 2x $1 and 2x $25 unicorn chips I'll add a photo

Here's the unicorn chips.

I've DMed @Mondaynight .

The packaging of the chips was well done, and fits in a USPS box as advertised. I'm not sure what CPS has available, but if nothing else I'll pack the USPS box that I opened into a larger box, with a bit of extra padding.

One thing I ran into: the chips were shipped as a gift, but 100 count at $1 each for $100 value. Canada Border Services applies duties and taxes on that since it's over $60 value; I paid about $30 CAD when I picked up the package. I could potentially reclaim some of the of the taxes/duty if I shipped back to the exact same person, and/or, got them to agree that the stated value was incorrect. I thought about that for a few days and decided it's not worth my time.

The lesson is that shipping these across the border, at least in the US => CAN direction is expensive on top of expensive. If @Mondaynight is in the US, we'll soon find out about the other direction. Therefore, maybe the queue should be reordered once in a while to minimize border crossings?

Actually, my vacation next week is into the US. If @Mondaynight is in the US, I'll carry with and ship from NY next week.
