As I am in the process of finishing what will most likely be my final cash and tournament sets, I pulled out my first cash set of Paulson Casino Chips. It was 1,400 Grand Victoria's and 200 PCA fracs. A $78,000 bank with the rack of $500's that I would never need but "had to have". As I was looking at those chips I remembered how much I enjoyed the journey of putting that set together. Late night eBay auctions, Chip Room Black Friday Sales, and even a private purchase here and there. It wasn't a project it was an adventure. Well...I sold the PCA fracs because the mixed molds bothered me but 20+ years later I still had that set.. It was at that point I decided to keep a piece of the past and to pay it forward to a new member who hopefully will catch the chipping bug as many of us have. I carved out a 600 chip, $5,300 bank set and just this morning sent a new member their first set of Paulson Casino Chips. I hope they enjoy them as much as I did. As we go about our chipping, don't forget it's as much about the journey as the destination.

What do you remember about your first set of "Real Chips "?

My first set of “real” chips were bud jones S2’s from the Jack Niemann casino in Bellingham, WA. In those times I was acquiring most from eBay although I was a chiptalk member back then.

Unlike you I made the mistake of selling them, moved on to Paulson Classics but eventually sold them also. Not keeping these sets was such a mistake.

Fast forward to about a year ago I finished an RHC relabel that I also sold, and regret.

The best part? The hunt for sure! Watching the set come together while making so many mistakes along the way. Wouldn’t trade it for anything!

Now, I just need to start building that THC set I keep talking about.

I remember how I thought it was s much more money than I would otherwise have been willing to pay.

Ah, the naivete of the uninitiated....
I remember thinking it was crazy that someone would pay $1 a chip for the new secondary chips at the CR sales..Lol...

The year was 2018... I remember trying to justify spending $2/chip on Paulson NPS chips to replace an old set of non-denominated dice chips.

It was okay though, I told myself. Afterall, it would be a "one-time" purchase and the set would last me a lifetime. I mean, who would ever need more than a single set of chips??

:ninja:

I posted wanted ad. I received inquiries. I purchased full, playable set. I put set into play.

Sorry, not quite as dramatic or interesting as most  . They have served me well though, and my first set is also currently my last set!

My first set was a mixed set that I built by the rack. I was so green I didn’t even realize the $1s were RHCs and the fracs and $5s were THC.
I didn’t hate the Terribles $1’s, but those mint Golden Eagle $5’s spoiled me for life. (As did those perfectly worn-in, buttery shuffling fracs.)
