Card molds versus No Mold? (1 Viewer)

Sorry, newbie here. I am looking at some chips in a GB and was wondering what the difference is between a cards mold and a no mold chip?

thanks!

Here's a great post with pictures to show the differences: https://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/nuts-hybrid-tina-chips.95735/post-1987285

But, in short, cards mold chips actually have a recessed area with two little cards that go around the ring of the chip. They are also fully dye sublimated with no label. Any artwork is directly printed onto the chip.

The no molds are a smooth mold with no recesses around the outer ring. There's also a hybrid version that are not fully dye sublimated, and have a physical sticker that is placed in the middle for the label.

In the past, with the CM chips, there were issues with color consistency on the recessed cards. In the sets that I've received recently, that has been less and less of an issue.

With the no mold chips and hybrid chips, the dye sublimation is extremely consistent since there are no recesses that have to be colorized.

The artwork on the printed labels for the hybrid chips is crisper and sharper than that which is printed directly onto the chip, which can be a little grainy. However, because the CM chips and no molds have full face dye sublimation, you are able to also print a faux shaped inlay which in my opinion looks fantastic.

There are two different no molds chips. Actually I think there are three. What you’re describing with the sticker is the hybrid kind, but there are no mold chips that are fully dye sublimated, and I believe they are further subdivided between smooth and textured finishes.

@Colquhoun’s Bellagio tributes were I think originally smooth but the new GB that @justincarothers is running will have them printed on textured. (Please correct me on any of this if I’m incorrect.)

Ah, yes, I had forgotten about the full dye sublimated blanks as well. I would also expect with these that you would get excellent color consistency since there are no recesses to have to worry about.

But, when you compare a hybrid no mold chip against a fully dye sublimated no mold chip, there will still be a difference in the quality of the artwork that gets printed. I still think that the hybrid labels produce slightly sharper and better artwork than that of the dye sublimation.

Please replace "no mold" with "hybrid". As written, your post is incorrect and extremely confusing for new readers.

As was pointed out above, hybrids and no molds are actually two separate offerings from Tina.

However, I did update it with the distinction between no molds, hybrids, and CM to make it clearer.

I’ve heard the textured chips Tina offers are very good. How they compare to others like. BrPro, Sunfly etc would be an interesting review.
