Barrington poker table thread (37 Viewers)

If I did go the route of custom cards, I would probably have to make some new artwork for Jacks through Aces as mario characters :) Sigh... too much work.

I got a lot of help from this forum on redoing mine so I wanted to spread the wealth on those who have the ESPN table.

Tips:
The only difference is there is a layer of plyboard underneath the arm rests, but this affects how you will build it.

Bring the foam padding under the plywood that the front quarter rests on it. this will give it a slight slant upwards which will create a deeper ring affect, and will also allow you to use LED's still.
If you are drilling out cup holders, do not go bigger than 2.75", otherwise you will eat through the entire LED plywood sheet. Because of this extra depth you also do not need to cut the legs of the table unless your cup depth is over 2.5"
You should absolutely replace the foam under the felt. IT IS GARBAGE. since you'll already have most of the work done, spend the extra $30 and get some good foam. I used elmers adhesive spray because I already had it, otherwise i'd use 3M. Elmers worked fine for me.
Replace the LED's. We all know that the ones they originally use are too bright, and the inability to change the color is annoying.

That is what I used and they look great for the price!

Total cost:
$136 for new speed cloth and foam from TPS
$30 set of 10 2.75" diameter, 2.5" depth cup drop ins.
$16 multicolored LED's
$22 for clamps and hole cutter (I already had the rest of the tools)

I am generally a handy guy, but have little woodworking experience. From start to finish it took me about 8 hours.

Question for those of you that replaced the pad as well as the cloth. Do you wrap the pad completely over the fold in the middle and staple underneath? I've always used the spray glue for pads just wondering how it all works with the fold in the table.

I literally disassembled the table, ripped off the old felt and old foam, reassembled the bare table, glued down the new foam, and cut the foam at the fold. Then I took it back apart to do the felt

That's the plan is to completely disassemble it when I get it. A couple guys in our league have the exact tables and the felt and pad are terrible. I have leftover stuff from another table I'm gonna put a new pad and speed cloth on it. Might do the cup holder upgrade if I can find a good price on those.

Just started working on my two tables today, and here’s my contribution/discovery to this thread.

When drilling out the cup holders, I found that flipping the hole drill bit upside down and marking the center was the easiest way to make sure the newly drilled holes lined up with the old holes in the rail/vinyl.

The holes drilled in the rail are way bigger than needed, and I was too worried about ripping the vinyl in the rail if I tried to drill with the rails still attached.

Updates to follow!

Don't know why they don't just make these with decent SSC to save us all the trouble. Would sell much better I would think.

Not only would that increase price, but if something happens during delivery and their cheap tablecloth rips, well, I won't care cause I am replacing it anyway. If SSC ripped, now there is a problem.

Does anyone know if the cup holders on the ESPN table are deeper than the normal barrington?

So I don't have any pics yet but my hole saw jumped on me out of one of the holes and put some idiot marks on my rail. Any of you guys had success recovering the rail at all? If so what materials and any "how to" instructions would be great lol.

Also, couple of things. My cup holders seem slightly loose in the hole. Could just be a slightly different cup or my hole saw might have made the hole slightly wider, either way, any suggestions on how to fix that? My initial plan is to just throw a couple wraps of like duck tape around the cup holder to add some girth.

My rails in a couple places the screws were stripped at the factory it seems. When I went to unscrew them they wouldn't come out of the hole. Anyone had any luck using larger or longer screws? Not sure which is the better option.

For the cup holders, I applied a religious amount of hot glue on the underside of the table, attempting to get some up between the cup holder and the bottom piece of wood/table.

Wrapping the cup holders in tape would also work and maybe be a bit less messy (I absolutely got hot glue on my forehead…)

For rail screws, I had a few that stripped out and then a few of the hinge screws that had the same thing happen. Went up to a slightly larger in diameter screw and didn’t have an issue. Pre-drill a small hole in the back side of the rail though so that the screw catches and pulls through.

When I refelted, I didn't completely cut out the new felt over the cup holder hole. Just made an "X" cut, the excess felt in the hole snugged up the cup holders quite well.

I did the same but I think my holes and cup holders I got might be slightly different in size. I went with some cheap ones on eBay. I'm gonna get it back out tomorrow so I can take pics of my finished product and put some tape around the cup holders to add some girth lol.

I do need to figure out about recovering the rail to fix my idiot mark.
