Hi again, I haven’t hosted a cash game yet and I’m trying to work out the little details. Should I record on paper how much each person bought in for and how many of each chip they requested? Same with rebuys. I’d think so that what I assume would be when cash out time comes, everything can be accounted for, but idk if that’s over the top with friends and family. Just so everyone knows it’s all legit I figured keeping all cash chips, money and papers in this large locking chest I use as a night stand. Too much? Lol idk, how do you deal with this in your home cash games? Thanks in advance
No, I don’t.
If someone buys chips, I do the following:
1) Do not put the cash in the box immediately. Keep it in front of you on the table, preferably with something holding it down (e.g. your card protector.
2) Count out the chips, keeping them in stacks of 20 by denom, with any irregular stacks separated.
3) Double check the cash.
4) Double check the chip count.
5) Push the chips partway to the player and ask them to verify the count.
6) Only once they confirm that they are satisfied, put the cash in the box.
You could, if worried, ask another player to check your counts.
I’m not sure how writing down the buyins per player with chip breakdowns would help anything if you wound up short.
Since the chips circulate on the table, that is not likely to help explain any discrepancy.
If someone were introducing matching chips into the game, it might help you notice an excess of chips in play at the end. But that would not tell you who was responsible.
Also, you should be able to tell that just by knowing how many chips are in your set, with breakdowns.
So I don’t see the point of the note-taking, from a game security perspective. It might be of interest to you personally in tracking who are winners and losers in your game, though.
