well, picking counters is a miserable experience. i think we have a winner, but we need to see it in person first.

We recently redid our kitchen. Opted for painting the cabinets (they were cherry wood). Turned out pretty good. Much cheaper than buying new ones. Please excuse the mess. Haha.

White is deff the new style everyone is using on cabinets. Wood and metal are normally timeless in designs, but on cabinets I did this exact same style in my kitchen (lighter gray wood floors) and I love love love the fresh look. Also it’s easy to see the dirt and wipe clean. I’m in the process of flipping a Neighboring property and just told the contractor “all white painted cabinets” - yesterday.

Sourcing fixtures up here in my part of the world has been bullshit. There's hardly any stock of anything. The sink I want is backordered minimum 2 months. The freezer and fridge are backordered until 'sometime in 2022'. Pre-made cabinets are touch and go The only thing I've locked down is tile, and maybe quartz counters (but I need 3 full slabs). Budget is now officially through the roof. Reminds me of something else familiar around here....

I really like the bar stools. One word of caution if you get these, a couple of the bolts were just a bit too short. I had to flatten the lock washer with a hammer to get the bolt to reach the threads. Once I did this, they went together nicely. Let me know if you have any questions or want better pictures of the stools.

Thanks. They are exactly the type of chair I'm looking for. Do you find them comfy on the butt and back? Do they swivel nice? Did you get counter height or bar height?

They are very comfortable for me and my wife, we are 5' 4" and 5'7", not sure if height would make a difference. They do swivel, it is a little tight and return to original position, I prefer this type of swivel so it works perfect for us. We went with counter height, bar height would be too tall for our setup. Looks like yours should be counter height as well.

*Sigh* My reno has been pushed back to Jan 2022. Just signed the contract for the cabinet makers, but they're backlogged for 4.5 months. At least it gives me a little more time to make some more money to balance out the budget increases.

oof, that's rough. but better to have a realistic date than promises with no follow-through. that's been the best thing about my contractor - he gives me a date for something, and that something has happened on or before that date every time. it even goes down to the littlest job details; he consistently under promises and over delivers, which is right up my alley as a customer.

Oh yeah, realistic dates are a must. I figure the reno will take 5 weeks if everything goes smoothly. And since I don't have a backup kitchen that's going to be a lot of microwaving/hotplating/grilling/ordering in/eating out for the time the kitchen is out of commission. My GC is really good, I've used them for 4 previous renos. Just the one outside subcontractor for cabinets that's causing the long delay, but their product quality and customer service were so much better (and at the same price) that I had to go with them.

this part has been not nearly as much of a pain as i thought it would be. we planned ahead with a reasonable backup kitchen space (fridge, microwave, toaster oven, air fryer, plus a grill with a side burner), and plenty of disposable dishes/utensils, washing the few real dishes in the bathtub. meals have actually been fairly normal, we haven't eaten out at all yet.
