Table Buyin to Set Cost Ratio (1 Viewer)

Inspired by @khp's question:

Now I’m curious as to who on the forum has the highest set cost (not value!) to initial full buyin ratio. Let’s standardise this to 9 players at 100BB

For example, my HSI set I expect to use in a 10c-20c game (at 1/100 denom). That means a $20 buyin x 9 players = $180. Cost of the set was ~$2500 so the ratio is 1:13.8 or with rounding 1:14.

High rollers need a separate poll, the quantity of possible responses is too low to cover high stakes games where the buyin is larger than the cost of the set.

At the moment my dice chips cost ~$100 including the case and 900BB is $1800 at my game. This great ratio will suffer imminently.

So far I'm using my Jacks set in a .05/.10 game. So ~$1100 in chips for $90 of buy-ins is about 1:12

What about tournament sets? I have (had pre-Covid) a game every 2 weeks with a $40 Canadian buyin for about 9-12 players on average. I'd say the average set to buyin is 10:1 BUT I have multiple sets 5 actually) for this game, so 50:1?

I'm no math genius...

I have $10k+ into my AS Cali set.

100 bb is $50 x 9 = $450

$10k / $450 = 22.22 so, 1:22

There should be an "I don't care answer". Basically I buy whatever I like as long as it fits within my budget. I never consider the stakes that I'm playingwhen purchasing a set (other than to make sure it has a solid breakdown for my game).

I think that’s what most people are doing? I’ve never considered this ratio when purchasing chips but maybe some do. I don’t know, this is just for fun/curiosity, just show results if you don’t want to vote

Or the cost of the chips that will see play on an average night. If I have a 3000 chip cash set, but only 400 chips see play in my weekly 0.25/0.50 game, then the cost of all 3000 chips shouldn't really be relevant, right?

Paying $15/chip or more for Pick Hobson $0.50 has to be up there for the ratio in my collection. 30:1. But when you factor in the other chips that see felt in that game, it brings the ratio way down.

But yeah, I constantly feel like the price of my chip sets is kinda stupid when I think of the stakes that I play with the girls.

We usually play $.5/1 or $1/1 $100-400 say initial buy ins total about $2k, and most of my sets cost in the $3-4k range probably, so 1:2?

I originally looked into this forum and other website sources for casino quality poker chips... Only to find a bunch of poker chip nerds trying to sell $0cash value "collectable" poker chips for outrageous amounts money posting of mediocre poker winnings, etc... Poker chips aren't like classic cars, or silver, or gold... they are f****** poker chips for crying out loud, with no actual cash value or "collectable value" that you supposedly claim maybe those very few rare ones are collectable, but for the most part, not really. There is no actual significant history behind "most poker chips" that are being priced at $2 - $5 per poker chip. I will gladly take my money to the casino and get "cash value" poker chips that I can always keep or cash back out for my money if I ever wanted to. You couldn't hold a gun to my head to buy your overpriced poker chips you idiots. I don't care if Paulson doesn't make poker chips anymore or these other brand names older than Paulson. It doesn't make the value that much more because it's not produced anymore, or because only so many of them were produced, as if it's rare. Casinos bought thousands upon thousands of the same poker chips, it's not like a limited number was produced for that specific poker chip for that specific casino. I would love to see you take it to a pawn store or an auction place and see how much it sales for... Oh ya that's right, only these idiots would pay that much for it, that's why you post it on this stupid site. A bunch of donkey mules

I did pretty well in that micro stakes game. Usually I lose 5 buy ins lol
