Post your first big poker chip purchase here. What got you into chipping?

After some research I settled on china clays because they were most compatible with my budget. I chose the Pharaohs because I am a big fan of the edge spot progressions and colors. The set on the left is intended to be a Father's day gift for my dad's new man cave. My thinking is it will serve well as a cash game set for 25c - 50c blinds and a $50 buy in. The set on the right is a micro stakes cash set for myself as I intend to use the $5s as nickels and so on. I live about 5 minutes away from my dad, so I'm thinking he can borrow some of my chips if he ever wants to expand his game or try a tournament and vice versa. I know the pharaoh set has 5c chips, but I wasn't a fan of the colors on those. The $25 and $500 chips are my favorite, so I had to build my own set to include those. I also ordered my first barrel of Paulsons with this set! I really like the Paulsons and will probably collect some more, but I don't know if I'll ever be able to afford a whole set of them! Maybe some day. Overall I am happy with these chips and am already considering buying more! I think it would be cool to have each player at my 8-seat table be able to start with a whole rack. Love massive stacks!

My first big purchase was a Roadhouse T5 Tourney set from Apache. Not sure how many different samples you have, but I got a whole bunch, including the Pharaohs, and just didn't like the feel of the china clays. Figured if I was going to a set I wanted it to be one that I really really liked, and the Pharaohs just didn't quite do that for me. Hope you enjoy your new set :)

My first real chip purchase was a set of Pharaohs from the GB.

Before that the only set I had owned were dice chips.

Before committing to the Pharaohs I had samples of Nevada Jacks, Chipcos, and BCCs (Mardi Gras).

I don't own the Pharaohs anymore (but I still have that dice set).

I am going through process of selecting my first set as well. A couple of sets I ruled out because of "Brown" quarters. So I totally get why you are put off by the Pharaoh nickels. I am leaning towards semi-custom chips where it is easy to select the chip and denoms I want. Why chips are made with brown in the pallet is beyond me...with so many colors to choose from.

I feel the exact same way. Especially the browns they offer us in the cc’s. Awful. I bought Milanos and removed the turd brown .25 stickers and put them on $50 lt blues. Still in play today.

I had an old cheaper set of metal slugged yin yang chips that I used for years. I would like to try some ceramics at some point, but the prices on those were a little higher. I have an idea for a custom set that I'll probably go the ceramic route on if I ever pull the trigger. After watching pretty much all of Jon Hobby's YouTube reviews I decided on china clays. I have a few sample sets, but just really like the color combinations on the pharaohs the best.

Joined PCF in January 2020. Bought my “forever” tournament set in March 2020. Sold my “forever” tournament set in May 2020. :p

Classic. Haha. Maybe before too long I'll be selling my set and upgrading. Never know when something will come along and catch your eye. What did you replace them with?

Built a few sets piece by piece before this but my first big purchase (all at once) was a Chipco custom Halloween set. Love this crazy set.

Nice. Really like the snappers, 25s, and 100s. Purple and yellow is probably one of my favorite color combos. Think I'll have to do a set of custom ceramics eventually.

I really love this chip colors. I was gonna buy those exact chips, then the HSI sale happened, so I bought those instead. I like my HSI, but I don’t love some of the chip colors. I love all the Pharaohs chip colors.

I just bought a nice set on here and couldn’t be happier. One of my favorite designs I’ve seen thus far.

I became a member here right after the hsi sale. I did get a barrel of hsi 1s in the same order as these chips (I ordered Cincinnatis, so I ended up with hsi through an error. I just wanted to feel paulsons though, so I'm not going to make a big deal out of it) and I agree I'm not a big fan of the brown. Still tho, the hsi chips feel WAY better than the china clays. I don't blame you for going that route.

My first big purchase was a thousand chips from the Outpost casino for $600. 600x $1 / 300x $5 / 100x $20. Mostly blind luck to have made a solid first purchase. These chips have seen plenty of felt time.

I have added-on to the set over time as we can see below. And as many of you know this wasn't my last big purchase . . . .

Good times! -=- DrStrange

My first set that got me int chipping is the Rounders, but not the traditional. It is a CPC 300 chip non denomination set.
There were 30 of these sets made in 1998 for Rounders movie distributors in Europe since then just one more has been found that joined the family last month.
My forever set.... yes still is, but I learned since then that in chipping never doesn’t exist...

My first big poker purchase was a set of CPC Rounders (stock design). They were $1.75/chip.

**To this day, hands down, the BEST VALUE set in my collection, dollar for dollar**

I first met @T_Chan back in 2019 and he let me sample a great number of Paulsons and at the end of our session, he offered to let me take a barrel of CPC csq mold chips, home for a week. I made a quick decision after just one night to order a set.
