Haha, you just perfectly described my chippin’ life. ”No honey, I got these way back”I’m pretty much of the opinion that phase two for me is “try to smuggle even more chips into the house while pretending that I’ve had them for ages and they’re not new”. Kinda what herself does to me with her clothes and shoes
The shelves in the hall cupboard are starting to creak so it’s probably only a matter of time before I’m rumbled.
Suppose like buying anything that’s second hand it’s a case of “caveat emptor” just as it is with buying a used car, guitar, golf clubs, etc.Buying something from a member a couple weeks ago and selling for >2x is not adding value, but extracting value from the community. Yes they are legally free and within the terms of the sight to do so. But it also doesn’t make it right. It is also rather un-community like for a place that a lot of people consider a community.
I am in it for the profit. Really.
RTs comments had nothing to do with the OP, nor did they have anything to do with anyone other than Jim. Easy enough to understand. If you can comprehend any of this sh@t show then I’d like to take that course.
op asks why people are selling at high prices
Poster says it’s because everyone’s just like a business and out to make money
I disagreed
It is honestly a much more rational motive than the “in it for the dirty old clay disks” motive that some of these other chumps have. Weirdos.
And as long as doing so doesn’t cause you to then spend hours online researching spells to use to turn the seller’s chips into dice chips when the price is higher than you’d like, sounds like a great way to spend some time. Otherwise, maybe not?Depends on how nosey you are. I like to know what's going on with RHC chip pricing, even though I may never buy another RHC chip again Why? I dunno.
Another technique that works for some. The technique I’m against though is not ignoring them in some way and then also being bothered by them!Rather than scanning the titles to see if I might want something every time something gets posted, I just unfollowed the Classifieds and the Chip Room altogether last year. Much easier.
I swear this is the only hobby on earth where half of the collectors bitch about the fact that their collections have gone up in value.
You mean @RainmanTrail derailed this thread to post some hateful and spiteful comments that had nothing do to with anything but his personal bias. Glad that doesn’t happen anywhere else.RTs comments had nothing to do with the OP, nor did they have anything to do with anyone other than Jim. Easy enough to understand.
Is this the right thread to discuss how the NAGBs changed the community aspect of PCF?
I really like that song. I like the studio version a lot more, but there doesn't seem to be a version of that on youtube.Too funny...
I just played the clip. Bob Dylan sounds just like he did 40 yrs ago. I couldn't understand a word then and I still can't. Good thing you posted the lyrics.... I caught that part
nah...that's the hotdog thread, last time I checkedIs this the right thread to discuss how the NAGBs changed the community aspect of PCF?
Let's go.....Is this the right thread to discuss how the NAGBs changed the community aspect of PCF?
Maybe so. But that isn't really the point.
Situation#2
New guy #2 comes in here and somehow decides to buy a set of 500 chips for $2500 that just sold for $500. Unfortunately he was taken advantage of. Is this his fault? Sure it is, but at the same time I see no need for this....
Anyway, new guy #2 in 6 months decides he wants something different. He tries to sell his chips and soon finds out that he has to have a fire sale @ $500 to move the chips. New guy #2 decides that he made a big mistake and not only is he not going to buy more poker chips he is going to quit poker too.
I'm not sure this sort of thing can be regulated or controlled, but I guess I'm just saying I am not a fan of situation #2
WHAT IS THIS "CPC" YOU TALK OF? IS IT A WIZARD?It's starting to seem like this is top secret intel around here, but for those of you who are wanting a nice set of chips for your home games, but are discouraged by Paulson chip prices exceeding $5 per chip in today's market, you can order a really nice set of CUSTOM CHIPS for less than $3 each from CPC! You get to choose your own colors, edge spots, theme, inlays, and quantities! And they're all in the same mint condition! And nobody else will have your chips. They even have the E&C, lcrown, and scrown molds now, and tri-moon spots, and they even have a nice yellow now too! (the new DG Yellow formula is much more vibrant and brighter than before). I just placed my 6th order with CPC last week for another set of customs, and I'm pretty stoked about it. I only have 2 sets of Paulson chips left in my entire collection now. If you find yourself frustrated by the market prices, and you haven't yet placed an order with CPC, maybe it's time to give them another look. There are some epic sets being made these days. Go snoop around the custom sets section for some inspiration and advice if you think you need it. There are plenty of great resources to help if you don't know where to begin. Having your own set of customs that you designed and love is the Mecca of Chiplandia in my opinion.

I wouldn't say that this is the case 100% of the time. By all means make a custom set that's near and dear to you. That being said, prepare to take a big hit as you mentioned on a set that is too personal and does not have ave lots of appeal to a broad audience.100% agree with everything you said here.
Only one downside is if you come up with something like Bill's Card Room you do limit your audience if you ever decide to sell. Honestly, that is a small price to pay for all the other positives.
A CPC set with broad appeal that was designed and made really well would fetch the cost of the set (and then some). I can think of a few sets that I'd pay actual cost for, but they would never come up for sale, and with good reason.
Always assume your CPC set is gonna be worth half, but some of the better designs around here can pretty coveted and sell for top dollar. Has that ever happened? I can't remember seeing a set of customs sell for CPC retail, let alone whatever the additional costs were (like art.)A CPC set with broad appeal that was designed and made really well would fetch the cost of the set (and then some).
