I think the point you are missing, because it doesn’t agree with your bias, is that

No, not everyone else is here as a business

Justify it however you want in your head - “everyone’s doing it” so you can sleep better at night. You can see from your comments what you are all about, just the money. The rest of us are just tools for you to get more money from in your mind, not even really human.
 
So I get the argument with recent or fairly recent ChipRoom sales but if you put them off to the side for a second, how much should someone sell a rack of clay disks for?

Let’s say they bought that rack last year for $100. Should they sell it for $100? What if they bought it twenty years ago for $100? Still $100? If they make it $150 are they not “embracing the community”? What about if they make it $300? Who gets to decide the years-to-markup ratio that’s “embracing the community” vs “profiting”?

I’m a new Covid member and feel several here have gone out of their way to help me build my set. Tagging me when chips show up in the classifieds. PMing me eBay listings. PMing me with deals on some of what I’m still missing. Two members sent me free chips that helped enormously. All of this for a “new guy” so yes...I do think the “community” aspect still exists. It may be different. I’m sure it’s different. But it still exists regardless of the price-point my target chips have gone for in the classifieds. I just see the two as unrelated.

Have I paid too much? Nope. Not for a single chip I bought because regardless of what the seller paid or when they paid it...I paid what I was comfortable paying. Will I be able to sell them for that or more in the future? I don’t really care because that’ll be my kids problem once I’m gone!

Just my thoughts...feel free to consider what you paid for them when evaluating their merit!

My comment has nothing to do with members selling chips. I'm talking about The Chip Room being a for profit business and saying, just like any other business, he's trying to maximize profits. Same thing with Apache, CPC, Chip Exchange, Spinettis, etc. All of them are businesses that are aiming to maximize their profits.

But feel free to spin it however you want (you always do).

Most people are shocked by the old prices...but in those days we paid for a membership (year/lifetime) and had to BUY credit to post classifieds.
It was the first time ever I was faced with a forum that wanted money before I could use all 'features'

This current price hike has nothing to do with new whales like @Changster & @Windwalker, there has and always will be whales in our seas....
It has EVERYTHING to do with

1. the explosion of members due to covid (and plenty of extra money due to no vacations, live poker, ...) and plenty of screentime due to homeworking
2. PCF has a much lower threshold for new members compaired to CT (a small group of geeks)
3. decreasing number of 'available' chips from the past...since many chippers did not make the CT -> PCF transfer, a lot of those old chips are not on the market anymore and the ones that were have now been locked down by the new owners
4. Since BCC & TRK left the game, there are no other sources for clay besides CPC (lengthy and expensive process, very worth it tho) and ex-casino chips that find their way to the market (TCR, ebay, ...) simple supply < demand
5. The ever growing perception that all Paulson chips are the only end all be all chips...top of the foodchain [spoiler alert: they are not]

We will see what happens after Covid...but I suggest you save up to scoop some chips 50c on the dollar ;)

All of your numbered points are true, I think. But if you think @Windwalker hasn’t had any influence on current prices, I’ll just disagree. I think it’s extremely difficult for a single person’s buying and selling activity to have an influence on the chip economy, and yet, I think he’s accomplished just that. Probably not as much as any of the other factors you’ve mentioned, but a factor nonetheless.

I'm just a scrub donkey with no real issue with how anyone prices their stuff. We all can choose who we buy from and when and at what price.

Shoot, I've paid through the nose for my stuff.

The $100P HSI chips for sale @ $500 made me chuckle. Just add the user to the ignore list, and presto, ad is gone.

Ignore works for me. It really tunes out the noise (flips)

Or just don’t click into it? I guess this is what I don’t get. If an ad is for chips I’m not interested in I just don’t open it. It could be the price, the chips, the seller, the use of all caps, the current phase of the moon. If I’m not interested I just scan past. Is this abnormal??

I’m pretty much of the opinion that phase two for me is “try to smuggle even more chips into the house while pretending that I’ve had them for ages and they’re not new”. Kinda what herself does to me with her clothes and shoes :ROFL: :ROFLMAO:
The shelves in the hall cupboard are starting to creak so it’s probably only a matter of time before I’m rumbled.

Depends on how nosey you are. I like to know what's going on with RHC chip pricing, even though I may never buy another RHC chip again Why? I dunno.

Ironically, nothing actually ever changed though. It simply woke some people up.
 
I don’t know what all the fuss is about.

People have the right to charge whatever they want. Others have the right not to purchase it. It’s that plain and simple.

If the argument is not allowing someone to sell on this site for a jacked up price I would disagree. Buyers who wants to buy will buy, regardless of whether the classified is on this site or eBay. There is no accomplishment to be made with such restrictions

Rather than scanning the titles to see if I might want something every time something gets posted, I just unfollowed the Classifieds and the Chip Room altogether last year. Much easier.

Buying something from a member a couple weeks ago and selling for >2x is not adding value, but extracting value from the community. Yes they are legally free and within the terms of the sight to do so. But it also doesn’t make it right. It is also rather un-community like for a place that a lot of people consider a community.
