I'm not a fan of heat with my backstraps. I like the steaks to stand on their own.
I usually cook the whole backatrap in the oven wrapped in bacon to keep the moisture in, with onions and garlic (some spices)
But I like the meat flavor too myself.
His soy sauce and ginger recipe is the bomb too

I'm no venison expert. Take it for a grain of salt. I cut my backstraps into 1 inch steaks. Very lightly season with sea salt and black pepper. Cook in a cast iron skillet on high heat for about 45 seconds on each side.

Sounds tasty! I make steals different than back strap. I cook the back strap whole usually or in a half length wise.
We make steaks out of some of the softer hindquarters meat

Nice! Love me some stroganoff! Congrats on your first successful hunt!
I love to hunt, I love the woods, and I love venison...the in between part where we make it edible is not my favorite lol I shot 2 last sunday and almost made the mistake of shooting 3, I'm so glad I didnt... would've been miserable lol
We took the deer to the local butcher for processing. As much as i wanted to do it ourselves I was exhausted after the hunt and my wife wasn't keen on reliving her days working at a butcher shop. We only get deer tags every other year out here. 3 in a day sounds like a dream (especially without climbing mountains all day)!

That's what I did with the heart, was quite delicious!

Oh wow only every other year? Do they carry over to the in between years? I'd be sad if I couldnt hunt every year... it's cold, but the woods are my happy place.

We can get elk tags over the counter every year. Very tough hunt though, those suckers like the tippy top of the tallest mountains, success rate is less than 20%. I tried last year and was humbled when the only elk we saw the whole week climbed the mountain in about 10 minutes. Took us several hours even after driving up halfway :banghead:

Yep mule deer. Just a little guy, but still a ton of work to get him back to the truck all alone.

Nice!! Yeah we use the kubota in tight spots but everything else is by foot. An ATV would be a great investment! Would love to do a Mule deer hunt some day!

Wait there can't be an 8...they are all taken. Unless there is a surprise 5th one for the giveaway. So let's go for a...

Hmm so if I read the board right, I've got 6 outs for the Omaha hand, and 1 out for the hold em hand. I've beat worse...I think... what a crazy game, betting would be a nightmare haha!

Edit: never mind, just saw hitting the wheel is no good, flush or bust it is!

This is a nightmare to read the board. I just realized now I have trips. So if a 2 does hit do I win both the Omaha and holdem hands?

Anyone see if I'm missing something?
