I've been playing online poker during quarantine and I would like to fiddle around with some chips in my room while I play. What chips are the best to shuffle around on my desk? I've only played live poker a few times and never shuffled the chips so I'm not really sure what the best type of chips would be for this. Should I be looking for clay or ceramic chips, and what size? I don't care about the price much, but I only need a few chips, maybe 5-10 max I guess. Thanks for any advice.

IMO, clay 39mm chips shuffle the best. Ceramics are just too slippery and don't give the best feel. Their sound is also higher and more tinny. Also if you're new to shuffling then 43 mm might be too big and could be frustrating.

if you want buttery smooth shuffling then what you really want are slightly worn in Paulson 39 mm. I prefer THC.

If ceramics are too slippery then you've never handled decent ceramics. Really old worn ceramics or cheap non-textured ceramics are slippery.

I actually have SunFlys on my desk right now for shuffling. I find the hand oils make them slippery over time and I have to clean them a lot more than a Paulson shuffle stack.

Also, it's not about the chip, it's about the edge since that's the only surface I touch during shuffling.

If I'm being perfectly honest I'd agree, but only because of the fact that I don't care for Sunfly ceramics. Get some nice Chipco ceramics, or hell even ABC I feel like they're better than sunfly.

Another option to consider are CCs. I keep two stacks of 10 each of Majestics and Milanos on my home office desk for shuffling purposes when working, playing online poker, talking on the phone, fiddling around, etc. But always remember to either put them down during Zoom conference calls or put yourself on mute. There's always the inevitable "What's that noise?" from the boss, and most of the time it's me shuffling away  :whistling:

I bought these for now: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DLFWNNT

...but I live in Puerto Rico so they wont arrive for 2-3 weeks or so. I can still cancel the order if there's a better place to order nice clay chips to shuffle around on my desk. Do they look ok? They seem to have good reviews, but it doesn't mention anything about their dimensions

If you are learning to shuffle, I believe ceramics are easiest. I tend to have my ABC sample and Chipco / PGI Yak samples on my desk, although recently I've added the Scrub Donkey samples and china clays. The Chipcos are my favourites to shuffle (love the sound), followed by the ABC chips.

I leave the BCC chips from my set for actual tournaments, and since I do not have many Paulsons (blasphemy, I know), I prefer not to shuffle them.

Chipco's website has one product and it confuses me, I'm not sure how to shop for them here

Also, definitely cancel this order if you can. These chips are fine for what they are, but are only a slight upgrade from dice chips.

Yeah it wont ship for at least 1 more week so I can cancel it if I need to still. But where would I buy the recommended chips for this then? I don't really see any good places that make it easy for me to order a couple of chips. I'm paying $30+ for 25 chipcos which seems pretty high for what I'm getting on that other website.

What does CCs stand for? casino chips? any good places to order 15-20 of them?

Earlier I had said that slightly worn in Paulson's are great for shuffling. well the reason that is is because they absorb some of the oils and they also have their edges smooth out a little bit. China clays don't have sharp edges so they're ready to shuffle right out of the gate.

I would still advise a light oiling on a CC though, out you could just let your finger oils do it over time.

I saw your comment but I wasn't really sure where to get Paulsons. I looked on eBay but I couldn't find any in a small quantity like the sample packs on some sites

My apologies, @fifteens. China Clays, as Tommy pointed out.

You can grab samples of the Majestics (comes with 10 sample chips) and Milanos (comes with 12 sample chips) at Apache Poker Chips to play around with shuffling to see if you like them. Apache is also a site vendor on PCF.

That site is perfect thanks!! I'm gonna actually keep my Amazon order and compare them to these sets to see the differences for myself.

Paulsons go up for sale here all the time. But it's usually by the rack. If it's by the barrel, it's still expensive because those are usually rare, high value chips.

I'm guessing you're not going to find economical Paulson samples to shuffle. If you're only looking to go in for like $20, I would advise top quality China Clays (majestics or Royals). I prefer the Royals, but I'm also a 43mm guy.

Would this be what you are talking about? I found it on the site that Chawks had linked me: https://www.apachepokerchips.com/product/elite-paulson-sample-chips/

I'm trying to place an order for these sample sets but it seems they don't ship to Puerto Rico. I sent them a contact email and I'll try and hopefully they will be able to help me.

Update: They told me to put my state as PA (Pennsylvania) and write a note that I was from Puerto Rico - so I'm good to go with the order. Does this look fine?

I don't know what site that is. www.chipco.com goes to GameOn Chip Company's site, but that doesn't appear to be it. That said, GameOn doesn't appear to be selling to the public, either.

My understanding of the history of Chipco
- Sold custom ceramic chips to the home and casino market. Blanks known as Protech.
- closed in the early 2010's (2012?)
- assets bought by PGI
- some ex-employees formed GameOn (GOCC) using very similar blanks. Looks like GameOn acquired the rights to the Chipco name at some point.
- GameOn left the home market.
- PGI closed a few years ago (2017?). Assets purchased by ABC Gifts and Awards.
- ABC as restricted the Protech blanks they have...they are no longer available to the home market.

(I think the above is correct, or at least close)

All told, new "Chipco" chips are not easy to find. They do come up on the used market. GOCC's are very close, if you can find a set.

That said, one of the vendors here (Holdem Poker Chips) have some from closed casinos on their pages (https://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/retail-store-poker-chips-and-accessories.43126/). You could ask them if they would be willing to sell you a barrel (20 chips or so)...worst thing they could do is say no. You can see the "CI" watermark on the Chipco chips.

Yep... But not the Elite Paulson... I hate those.
Agreed, they’re trash. Apache has a bunch of other samples of real Paulsons, like Harrah’s sample sets, you could buy some of those. They also sell barrels of those.

Whats the difference between them? Which paulsons should I be going for then? I almost placed the order, I'm glad I checked here one last time lol

Yeah, that site looked reallllly weird, it was the first one on google when I googled chipco chips. I think I'm just gonna go the Apache route since its easier for me, but I'll keep that in mind for future/bigger orders :D

I'm glad you guys stopped me then. Whats the difference between these and the Harrahs that makes them so bad? I haven't placed the order yet so I can still change that one to a different sample set. I just thought these had look the nicest from the Paulsons sample sets that I saw.

Completely different chip. Here's some RHC (not as good as THC) https://www.apachepokerchips.com/product/horseshoe-casino-cincinnati-paulson-sample-chips/

Also, you can build a shuffle set from some of the active links here;
https://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/presidents’-day-weekend-sale.51696/

I guess I just don't understand how are they different. What makes one Paulson better than the other (other than RHC vs THC)?

That sale thread you linked looks good. Definitely better than paying $12+ for 4-5 chips on Apache. But I need more reputation around here before I can start using these threads I think, right?

You just hit ten posts, so you can go to the classifieds now, and that’s a vendor thread, so you could use it anyway.
