I am neutral chaos. I really give no fucks at what price point you sell your chips. Flip away.

However...You did say "So, fire away!" Also, in your previous (now deleted) threads, you mentioned that you took them to eBay because they weren't for PCF..and the prices you set weren't for PCF or something like that. And that is all great. But then why advertise here if they aren't for PCF? It's almost as if you enjoy this.

And to be fair, I also don't believe that @ReallyGoodUsername thread is helpful.

Next time, make your "Mine" listing linking to your eBay auction, then close the thread immediately. It's like turning off comments in other social media. :tup:

No double standard that I can see. Those NAGB members who profited from NAGB chip sales have certainly received criticism -- public and private -- whether it was warranted or not.

Fwiw, it is inaccurate to state that those sellers inflated NAGB chip prices, as that responsibility lies directly with the buyers of such chips at those prices. If nobody bought 'em, they wouldn't sell at those prices.

Thanks. I was going to comment, but felt the OP was just trolling with this thread - but it is amazing at how short some memories are.
 
So you see there’s no real apples to apples comparison. There are three different types of buying/selling scenarios - public group buy where everyone has a chance to get on board, NAGB where there was a secretive effort and selective inclusion, and Chiproom sales in which a different set of morals and sub rules of purchase are expected to be followed. All different points with differing positions based on who you are. This causes a division of membership. Sorry to state the obvious and throw fuel on the fire.

Okay, I'll play this silly game....

In your opinion,, which is the 'worst' offender:
  • buys one-time-offer group buy chips, sells them later at 4x cost
  • buys one-time-opportunity private venture chips, sells them later at 4x cost
  • buys publicly-offered vendor chips (huge quantities available), sells them later at 4x cost
  • buys publicly-offered vendor chips (limited quantity available), sells them later at 4x cost
Please make your selection and provide reasoning.


Personally, I see no real distinction between any of the scenarios..... but maybe you do.
 
It is clear that the Chiproom goes above and beyond what most vendors do in order to curb those who want to simple flip chips for profit (with restrictions on the percentage of individual chips you can purchase compared to the overall amount of chips purchased, for example). Chiproom also provides very reasonable prices since one can see that these chips could be sold at 3x+ the price probably and still be getting buyers.

Now, is it wrong or immoral or whatever to take advantage of a sale on chips with the intent on flipping them instantly for 3x+ the price you just paid? I'd say no, that's just how the market works, and if people are willing to pay those prices, others are welcome to sell at those prices.

Now, in respect to "taking advantage" (for lack of a better term) of Chiproom sales with the express intent to instantly flip them for 3x+ profit, is it reasonable to think that Chiproom will continue offering these deals and attempting to get more chips to more people in the PCF community if it seems like some are "taking advantage" of him and his generosity and fairness for their own profit? I'd say yes, it's likely that behaviour like this may make Chiproom reluctant to keep selling specifically to the PCF community, and that may be the issue some people have with this. It can be great for the guy flipping them right now (in the short run), but it could be bad for everyone in the long run.
 
I'd also like to point out that there have been a LOT - dozens, at least -- of private ventures conducted over the years to purchase poker chips. Some with just a single participant, others with just a few participants, and a few with a larger number of participants. Nearly all resulted in the purchased chips being resold, often on chip forums, and almost all for seller profit. Most people reading this were not involved with ANY of the projects.

Private ventures or NAGBs are not a new phenomenon, nor are they some 'evil invention' of profiteering chippers with ill intentions.....and they have been responsible for a very large number of some pretty nice chips getting introduced into the chipping community, going back some 15 years or so. And to peg them as such does those admirable efforts no justice, just because you personally were unaware of their existence, or because you were not directly included in any given endeavor.

My memory is quite poor, I don’t recall which sets would have been private venture back then. Care to elaborate?
 
I think there were a couple sets done by user Jdunford like the quarter pie riverboats but they were available through holdempokerchips.com. I can’t remember any like the ones here though That were totally secret which may be why they were unsuccessful like the sin city showdown chip buy that stalled due to no ones fault. I could be wrong though.
