Hello PCFers,

I am new to chipping as I stated in other posts. My style of chips is colorful yet serious looking casino chips. Preferably, a conversational piece to any level of poker player. That said, I saw Dios De Los Muertos chips from BRProPoker.com and liked the design and knew my wife and family would love the color and artwork. Since 80% of games would be with family I felt comfortable pursuing. It wasn't casino style, but it was definitely colorful and conversational.

However, the more and more I researched and saw PCF Pr0n I felt for sure I would end up with 2 sets at some point. DDLMs for family play and casino style chips for more serious action.. Possibly a 3rd set for tournament (Now I know how "it" happens, but that's for another post).

So I recently ordered sample DDLMs. Wife loves the design. I was still getting use to the weight and feel. I have been shuffling them all day. My wife started to make fun of me and tell anyone she talked to on the phone that all I did was play with my chips. I had to admit that was pretty funny.

Just as I convinced myself that DDLMs would be my first poker set purchase, my wife said... why do those chips (ceramics) sound different than the others (clay chips) that we played with. I explained in general what ceramics and clay chips were. Then she said "did you order them yet?" And I explained how this was a sample set so you can determine if you like them before you buy 1000 chips. Then she said... "I prefer the other chips, they are more professional looking". These other chips were a set I had for 1 day (another post) that were more of a serious casino style chip.

In my head I am like.. "what?" I was getting this set because I thought she would enjoy them more. And then in my head I was immediately calculating how much I was going to spend on DDLMs (already over my initial budget) and what a 2nd set would have cost me. BAM!... a new budget price point for one good set! LOL.

A pleasant result and another reason to get sample sets first!

The DDLMs are some of my kids favorites. I think it has some of the best artwork I've ever seen. And the fact that I can customize them and order them in $0.01 and $0.05 for the kids was awesome.

When I joined 2 years ago I thought that two sets was going overboard. I think I have 10 sets now. Welcome to the madness!

By the way, I had to look up what one pocket was. Very cool game... I think I'll give it a try on my table.

1 pocket is known as the Chess of pool. You will like enjoy it.

Regarding DDLM... I am sure I will get a small micro-stakes set.

My progression was this:
-Yin Yang sluggers
-DDLM's Cash and Tournament (DDLM cash is still my most used set & a favourite of my players)
-HSI/Jack mixed set (Will become my workhorse and eventually re-labelled)
-IOC Cash set (is my absolute favourite set and will only come out for special occasions)

My advice, get the DDLM's and a nice set of clays. But don't discount the DDLM's, people love them.

I don't have a set of DDLM's. I do have a set of Parks and Rec on the @ABC Gifts and Awards chips and my group absolutely loves them! Is your sample on the 39 mm or the 43 mm? Both are awesome. The 43 mm are 4mm more awesome!

"2 sets"

Okay, fellas, the over/under is five sets in six months. Put your money down now.

Ceramics are great if you are looking for something you can easily acquire a TON of and with a consistent price. Like you just know 500 DDLMs are going to cost me X dollars. With most higher end sets, the price can be all over the map and fluctuate by what people are collecting that particular month. I have a huge, 2000 chips, set of ceramics that I use for a game that requires that size. I've never been a fan of the DDLM art work but I really like the Tiki Kings, it's all about personal preference, I enjoy the bright colors, but the skulls and what not do nothing for me.

I will say however that to me, the ceramics aren't really something you get to collect. You aren't really seeking them out, investigating the history of them and where they came from, and enjoying them with other enthusiasts in the same way.

So I think it comes down to what about the hobby really interests you, playing with them, collecting them, doing something else.

I hope I don't get into collecting! I might become more of a hoarder but not collector. My intentions is to get a set I will play with. I have a nice poker table and setup just need the right set to go along with it. That said, never pictured myself on a forum devoted to poker chips.

Got a sample set of the DDLM‘s a while back, I like the design theme and use them as one of my shuffle stacks when I’m near the computer. All my sets are clay and these were the 1st ceramics I’ve handled. In saying that, I do prefer the sound and feel of clay, had I not already got my ‘away from home set‘ the DDLM’s would’ve fit the bill nicely for me.
Sounds like wifey is giving you the green light....lucky fella

My missus hates my poker chips, thinks they are a waste of money and has a go every time a parcel arrives. Even when she gets two parcels the same day with tiny sachets of cream at £30 a pop. I could probably paint the house with just the nail polish she has. Make the most of it while you can and buy everything until she tells you to stop.
