The USA v DR was everything you could ask for in a baseball game.

Closely fought, the end in doubt till the last pitch. The lead changing hands. The margin of victory thin.

The pitching was tough especially when it mattered. Amazing athletic plays, remarkable defensive gems on both sides. Lots of action on the bases even though the game was a low scoring affair.

Add in the spice of a few umpire controversies. No great game seems to escape the what ifs of a botched call / decision.

It is sad we don't get a full seven game series to really tell which team is best. One razor close game doesn't prove much. But for one glorious night in March, all was right in the world of baseball -=- DrStrange
 
The game was great. Pitchers duel on both sides. Controversial strike threes aside, the Dominican Republic team had plenty of opportunities to score but failed to capitalize.
 
Should have known something bad was gonna happen the moment we decided to let a dude named Aaron bring out the American Flag in a big moment.

I drive past the site of this exact avicide maybe once a month or so on my way to or from work.

Am I bad person if I find the grainy "in glorious standard definition" video of this particularly funny? Maybe dark-humor level of justice for all the times they've 'left a present' on the windshield of my car....



(That said, if I'm going to go, please let it be this quick and painless. That poor dove, quite honestly, had no idea what hit it. :wow: )
 
Netflix paid MLB $60 million to broadcast the Home Run Derby, Field Of Dreams game and also what is being called Opening Night (A game played the night befor Opening Day). So $60 million a year (for 3 years) is the cost to sell out on a century old tradition of all teams starting on the same day. Don't get me wrong, I'm excited to watch the game tonight but mostly because baseball is back and I'm already a Netflix subscriber. But when does the sell out end? I guess never. Stadium names. Patches on uniforms. Advertising on the helmets. Now opening day. MLB is raking it all in and expects to attempt implementing a salary cap in the next labor negotiations? Yeah, ok.

There’s been other years in which teams opened the season before the regular season”opening day”. It was in Tokyo a few years back. Then they they came back, played an exhibition game, and then opened the season. I think that was dodgers/mariners

Days before though and it was never advertised as an opening day or night or anything.

Dodgers/Cubs last year, and they did advertise them as the season's opening game.
