Both very large cities with a few redeeming qualities and a lot of drawbacks.

Vancouver or even Calgary would be better choices for Canadian destinations, based on quality of living (although V can be rainy for long periods, and C can be cold - not Toronto cold, but still…)

I’m sure some US members can suggest American alternatives, but if you’ve got free accommodations lined up in LA or Toronto, then LA is warmer and has a lot more going on. Toronto probably is cleaner and has a more polite population. ;)

Let alone that you 're in the same country with @T_Chan and @Gear :)

I voted LA. I'm wrapping up a similar experience. I'm an officer in the military and I got stationed in Southern California for the last three years. If housing costs are going to be covered and you aren't going to be looking to settle down long-term with a family, well then its pretty hard to argue against this area. You're in a situation to take advantage of the pros and avoid most of the cons.

it’s been a long time since I’ve been to either. I used to spend a decent amount time in Toronto for work. Always really enjoyed my time there, and considered moving there for a couple years. The eye candy in Toronto was outstanding BTW, A++. Great food, used to have a killer music scene, and people were generally very cool. Not that far from NY, or other east coast destinations, etc. I was single back then and it’s been ~20 years, so my experience in Toronto is certainly dated - lol.

Spent a week in LA once and vowed never to go back. Worst city I’ve ever visited IMO, anywhere - lol. But it’s warm… so it has that.
