My set up is in a room with a poker table and a pool table. There is not much seating other than around the poker table. There is a TV on the far side of the pool table. You can see it from the poker table but it would be hard to hear without turning the volume to loud. I usually play music with the tv muted. What do you think about having a movie playing instead. Something people don't necessarily need to follow but still entertaining. I was thinking about "The Wolf of Wall Street" or "Old School". Maybe keep the tv muted and still play music? What do you prefer?

My players get ancy without music. Gotta have something playing. Always I play stuff that has popular appeal to 30+ adults. Hardly any new music. I also pretty much leave my own tastes out of consideration but once in awhile I’ll slip something I love into the mix.

Never thought of running a movie, because we are in LA most of my player pool is in entertainment and they all have pretty strong opinions about films. I’d be nervous about showing pretty much any movie or tv show. Their withering music criticism can be bad enough.

Honestly, I think only 1-2 people of 10 watch sports. That's why I was thinking a movie, but it sounds like music might trump all.

Anything that is not distracting to the players....if it doesn't distract them, I don't care.

I have 3 tv's in my poker room so that everyone has a good view of what is on. I find that if you put a movie on, even with the sound lowered, there is way too much interest in it. We play on a Saturday, and here in Canada, it's like church for the NHL. There are 2 games that always run back to back so that is almost 7 hours of hockey. Also, if one of the 4 major leagues is having their championship game, that is what is going to be on.

Usually I have a game on in the background with the sound really low. Typically I host on Friday nights so it's not a big football game night where everyone is going to be distracted. Most of my players are into sports but not huge fanatics, but I avoid hosting on nights with big games, so it really just provides a little something to do when you're not in a hand and something to talk about. We had the World Series on last Friday, but with no local teams in the mix, no one was glued to the screen. During really dead sporting times of the year, I'll swap in music, gotta have a little something going on, dead silence would drive me nuts.

Yup muted tv (closed captioning ON) with sports or ESPN and music (90s alternative) playing.

Pandora stations on the Sonos. Mix of Dave Matthews / OAR / Dispatch stations. Sometimes mix up with 90s stuff or the No Diggity station.

I put music on via a Bluetooth speaker.

If it's a tourney I put the blinds timer up on the one TV in the area.

If it's a cash game I put on Poker Go and mute the TV.

I have 2 tv's and always have sports on and if my vantage point could see more then just those two I would add more (I always sit in the same seat)
We play on Thursday nights so my guys, myself included, would go crazy missing college football.

I'll put a game or poker on the TV if one of my players requests it. Otherwise I play low-volume music through a Google Home. The nice thing about that is I can change the music or volume without getting out of my seat (via voice or phone).

That would be one way to keep me out of your game lol.

Same here. I think only one or two guys that I play cards with share the same music tastes as I do :(

Yeah you have to be really careful about imposing your own musical proclivities on your fellow friends/poker players. I just try to pick timeless stuff - the best of each decade, for example - Beatles, Bee Gees, The Police, Green Day, Bruno Mars, etc. - the stuff everyone enjoys, or at least can tolerate because it's good.

I like death metal. The harder the better. The group doesn't, so we don't listen to it. My job is to be a good host. That's what I try to do. I compromise and we usually listen to 90's/2000's rock. After awhile I switch to a more random rock station

I stream Sirius radio so I can usually find something that the group likes (and I don't hate).

I set up my computer so people can see the ‘Blinds Up’ display. Then I plug in an iPod with my poker playlist. I try to keep it relatively easy-listening and non-offensive. The hell with people who don’t like it! The biggest point of contention is how loud I put it on. The speakers are located behind my seat so I do not wish for it to be too loud, my hearing isn’t the best as it is.

Tracks include:
- A lot of classic rock (think Bob Seger, The Eagles, etc)
- Old school RnB and soul music, Bobby Womack, Marvin Gaye, Otis Redding, etc
- Some instrumental music from James Bond soundtracks
- A generous peppering of tunes from Frank Sinatra and the rest of the rat pack, including live Vegas performances
- Jazz numbers from Miles Davis and the like
- Most of whatever music I have that mentions gambling and/or money
- A few of Ella Fitzgerald’s Cole Porter numbers

I don’t always use this playlist. Sometimes it’s just an eletronica album or two that I stick on.

I love this!!

Does anyone have a spotify playlist that they would be willing to share?

Strictly jazz, strictly instrumental, low to mid volume.

Absolutely no TV.
Sports: The only way for me to possibly socialise with people interested in that cr@p is around the poker table, provided they don't talk about it:D

I usually stream the dinging of slot machines, coupled with the low murmur of people talking, yelling and screaming in the back ground. You know to get that authentic casino feel.....coupled with my authentic "casino weight" chips.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Seriously though classic country, rock, and some hair nation.:D usually have some sport on TV with the sound down, unless its a big game.

I don’t have Spotify but I can try and list some of the money/gambling songs off the top of my head.

Desperado by The Eagles/Linda Ronstadt/Joe Walsh
Money Honey by the Drifters/Elvis Presley
For the Love of Money by The O’Jays
Luck Be A Lady by Frank Sinatra/Marlon Brando
Money (That’s What I Want) by Barrett Strong/The Beatles
Money by Pink Floyd
Viva Las Vegas by Elvis Presley
Tumbling Dice by The Rolling Stones/Linda Ronstadt
The House of The Rising Sun by The Animals

There’s plenty more and I’m sure most of these show up on generic gambling song playlists you’ll find on the internet along with The Ace of Spades by Motörhead and the like.

One of my guys has a subscription to the UFC, so we usually put a pay per view on. If not that, then sports. If not that, then one of the live concerts I have on the DVR.
