What do you do?? (1 Viewer)

I'm a marine engineer.

I have worked all over the world on different types of ships.

Currently sailing on the great lakes on an ore carrier.

I like the work and the time off. (I usually ship about 6 months a year)

The time away always suck though. I hope to be done sailing in 5 or so years and open my own business.
Which line/boat? My folks have a cottage on the shore of Lake Superior in Whitefish Bay. My dad's a boat-spotter.

I am on the Rodger Blough right now....... have been on a few of these lake boats over the years.......
Oh man, any way I can convince you guys to tie up at the Soo for an hour or so next summer and show my dad around? I mean, time in transit is only money, right? Lol. He's nuts about the freighters.

School time: made a bunch of websites for friends and relatives, some contract work for an internet agency, cashier/general drudge for a copyshop
University time: systems and network programming (C/Unix) course tutor

Now: Software developer in the public sector. Working on making day-to-day citizen<->administration interaction a bit less of a hassle for everyone involved.

Today at the airport. Fun day for work:rolleyes::ROFL: :ROFLMAO:

Project Manager - I perform maintenance and modifications to large steam turbines and generators for the largest fleet in nuclear power.

Prior to that, I was a field engineer and travelled the world installing and repairing turbines and generators of all sizes across power generation.

I guess I need to update everyone. I am over operations for a company called Freetail Brewing. We are a craft brewer in San Antonio. We have a brewpub and taproom at the brewery. So far I have been there a week and loving it. I still work for the same family but they asked me to help them out at the brewery. When duty calls...
We drink beer! Lol
Prost!

I do contract management stuff for government, which in my current role is in a stadium, which should be cool in theory.

I hate my job so much right now lol my office has become toxic.

After applying for new jobs for 4 months, I’ve just this week had an offer of an 8 month secondment in a different agency (a higher level with more pay) to get back into running procurement processes. I’m currently in the process of applying to be released for the secondment.

Wish me luck guys. For my sanity, I need this transfer lol.

Should be graduating in May with my MSEd in Curriculum development and initial Secondary Ed teaching certification. Thanks to this history of nonsensically wasted time, I’m going to be a goddamn phenomenal and passionate teacher til I’m 63.

The best stories come from my Lehman days. Perfect storm of youth, naivete, new money, partying, and drink/drug-addled millionaires. Wolf of Wall Street type of shit, those days and nights were. Degenerates all!

Mowed lawns and delivered The Detroit News until 15
Worked in a machine shop at 15
Worked in stock room for sporting goods company through college
Got a job in accounting office for sporting goods company close to graduation
Became a CPA around 23 and did public accounting for about 4 years
Tried private accounting for large manufacturing company and did not dig it!
Got lucky when 28 and hooked up with high school friends family companies doing sand and gravel trucking and golf course accounting and office management type stuff. Now 51 and still with the same good people. I do all sorts of different things instead of just accounting, but I do that too. They take good care of their workers and most days I like my job!

No windows?

I live 4 blocks away from that building. Supposedly one of the most secure buildings in the country and officially it’s an AT&T building with multiple floors of NYC subway switching systems as well...but we all know it’s @navels’ lair  aka NSA’s facility for either hunting down terrorists or finding treasure troves of chips online :D

In my 25th year with the Los Angeles Police Department. Which is a family business.

My father, myself and my son all served in the United States Marine Corps, my father is now retired from the LAPD and my son and I are still active.
My sister in law works for the LA School district as a counselor and my Uncle was a big time priest in LA. They even named a street after him.

Thank you for your service in the "family business"!

David

I am a Staff Sergeant (E5) in the United States Air Force and I've been in for about 7.5 years and my job is Air Transportation Specialist. The unit I'm in now specializes in contingency response. We're a highly mobile and self sufficient unit that has the capability to deploy within 12hrs notice.

Our main mission set is to open airfields and provide cargo and passenger support. For example we were the first ones into the Florida Keys after Hurricane Irma and Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria.

My job has taken me all over the country and all over the world to places like South Korea, Israel, Ukraine, Spain, Romania, Germany, Thailand, and most recently Australia. I get paid to go on all expense paid trips. I have the best job in the world.

Software engineer at a small iGaming company. We contract with the larger producers of in-casino slot games to bring their games to the web. It's pretty cool stuff! My favorite job so far by a mile.

I'm also working toward a masters in Computer Science. My undergrad is in English, so it's been a long haul moving from non-technical to technical.

Eventual goal is to work in the private space industry, preferably SpaceX.

I work for PricewaterhouseCoopers. CPA, but work in their Deals Advisory practice doing M&A consulting, primarily financial due diligence.
