Expectations are a funny thing. I’ll share my most over and underestimated chips. This came to mind while shuffling these:

Which I have a mixed rack of for my HU collection. These are by far the best chips I’ve ever shuffled. Just worn enough that you’re not clacking sharp edges, heavy. And the wear on them has softened them, it’s amazing.

And I wasn’t expecting that at all! I wanted a track of leaded THC for the collection and these were accessible. I was totally missing out! I get the hype!

On the other hands, every giant inlay has disappointed me. The oversized inlay Harrah’s by contrast are so slippery you can barely stack em for a photo. And PNYs are no better. No wonder there are so many sharp ones out there, they must be awful to play with!

So when have your expectations proved wrong?

Overrated: very high weight THC’s, like 11g chips. They just have a hardness to them that I don’t think mixes well with the weight. I think there is such a thing as too heavy.

Underrated: Nevada Mold Nevada Jacks. Stack like absolute bricks, shuffle great, look great. From last night’s game:

The Fun Nite THC’s, especially the T-stamp chips, are also underrated imo. The best shuffling THC’s I own.

Yo… let me get those 11 g stamps haha I’d say 13 g is too heavy though, reminds me of slugs

Unpopular I know. The ultra heavy inlaid roulettes that have passed through my hands are just too much. They’re still great, just not as good as the other THC’s I’ve played with.

I was pretty sure I hated the TP avocado $25s and almond $5ks. Turns out, those are two of my favs irl. Pics don’t do them justice, at all. Fortunately for me, the community had praised the avocados enough, I felt compelled to sample a rack, which immediately lead to acquiring a few more. lol

There’s a such thing as too heavy imo. The Sun-fly oasis, which generally were a bit of an expectation defier (the sound when shuffled) were just way too heavy for me. Like hurt my wrist after shuffling during work calls

Yup some chips really undersell themselves in photos. The RA 43mm come to mind

They indeed shuffle like butter!!

There's not enough love for plastic chips!!

The first set that really surprised me is OPUS Gemaco chips, they are so nice to shuffle, and I also like the weight on these too.

On the other hand, leaded worn chips are not my thing. I am mildly disappointed when mine cos they do not shuffle as buttery as I tot they will be and their wash-out colour after a while is another minus for me

I definitely think there comes a point where worn THC’s don’t shuffle as well anymore. My Atlantic Maritime $5’s are not as pleasant to shuffle as the rest of the set, which is less beaten up. The original $1’s I had with that set (not the cherry picked racks) were really not fun to handle.

Spot on, lightly used Paulson definitely hit the sweet spot

I’ve always wondered about these. Definitely need to get a HU rack at some point. They just look so flat

Do take note not All Gemaco chips are the same, they seem to have serval different production lines altogether

The one that I am not a fan of is the super sharp edges version

The dark green color of the avocados almost seems to glow. Impossible to see in photos, and really cool in person.

Love me some Oak Trees!

It did piss me off that there was half-dook blue on the Carolina blue half pie ones, so I'm not that upset.

@arch3r did you buy some of these from me?

p.s. The Hundos are fire. Best RHC ever!

A friend of mine has a set of PNY we have used for years. Broken in and just as buttery as any other.
No stacking issues but nothing is close to bike-tire status yet.
We used his so much mine is still mostly mint since when I host we use others sets from my menagerie  .

The over-sized inlay never bothered me as it highlights icons of NYC as a theme, and is not some obnoxiously large vanity house sticker.

How do these compare to the Bud Jones chips in shuffling?

These are some of the best shuffling chips I’ve had. They feel awesome with that old leaded TRK *clack clack** sound instead of the **click click* sound new chips make
