Hi everyone,

I play poker at home with the family, varying ages from young to old. We play during the holidays whilst having food and drinks.

Im concerned about the toxicity of the chips, mainly for the youngsters sake. Does anyone recommend any chips which are manufactured in Europe, as they normally have good safety regs?

I really want a Tina set but since they’re manufactured from China and they’re not making food grade plastics I fear the chemical safety profile of the chips might be a bit loosey-goosey. Can anyone confirm, please?

Thank you!

Don't eat the chips. Wash your hands after handling, or recommended before eating (good advice anyways). There shouldn't be any problems. Even leaded Paulsons are not a concern.

Unless you have very young children handling the chips, the toxicity of poker chips is very low when used as intended.

I can't tell if this is a real post or not (sorry). Lead paint..click clacks...and lawn darts is where it's at my friend. Just ask your older players who have survived it all.

Honestly, if you're worried...then I recommend picking up some ceramic chips. Lead free. Just watch out for...

Best of luck Brother!!

In all seriousness:

Small parts and children is a bad combination whichever type of material you would use. Especially when you state in your post that you are combining with food.
So I would suggest either using FatHats (48mm) which will be way too expensive or just the biggest plastic ones you can find to make sure they don’t end up getting eaten?

I can’t blame you for being concerned about what goes in to Chinese products. But unless your kids are chewing on them, or maybe shuffling them nonstop for 60 hours per week, I can’t agree that there’s an issue to consider.

Buy these !!

I have a 2 year old who plays with my poker chips. They're safe. Maybe stay away from old leaded Paulsons, but other than that you're good. Just don't let them eat them. If they are trying, you havr bigger problems. Any plastic or ceramic chip is going to be perfectly safe. If you are worried about breathing in dust, avoid china clays. (This is still not going to be a big issue.) Plastics and ceramics aren't going to dust off. (Especially ceramics. Those things are hard.)

The most harmful thing on poker chips is going to be the bacteria on your fingers, same with anything else. So just wash your hands.

Don't rub the chips on any mucosal surface and don't insert them into any orifice.
Good advice for most utensils. Not just chips.

I feel we’ve come a long way as a species. Good times!

Anything ceramic is fine. Plastic is technically fine, but I am concerned about micro plastics. If anything, I'd be more concerned about any bacteria or virus kids can pick up from putting things in their mouths.
