What are the best live casino chips across the US? (1 Viewer)

I've been told over a dozen times from cage cashiers and managers in a number of LV casinos, they cannot sell chips. Like you cannot give them a hundred dollar bill and get a rack of chips from any cages outside of a poker room.
Just trying to help pass on info from what I've encountered in Vegas.
The OP's "across the US" includes a lot of casinos that aren't in Vegas. I've never had a problem getting racks at any casino in AC or Biloxi, for example.

And I've gotten racks of chips from the main cages at numerous Vegas casinos, including Luxor, Flamingo, Venetian, Cosmo, Aria, and a few downtown. Some don't, like Paris, but some do...

Ok. Cool. I'm wrong then. My bad.

Let’s say you have a live set at casino X. In 5 years casino X changes its chipset to a new look. Can you still cash in?

Edit: I’ve discovered the answer is no if the transition is completed.

the answer is probably, but you have to pay attention for the transition - they will always give a good long warning to cash your chips in before they are worthless.

if you aren't paying attention, then enjoy your cool casino chips!

Should clarify, after the transition is made, the answer is no.

I’d love to harvest in Detroit. MGM, Greektown, Motor City come to mind and all have incredible live fracs.

Sadly, I’m not the harvester of this rack - just the current owner.

Never a bad tangent to talk about beautiful live harvestable chips. Do you have some examples in mind?
I've went through thechipguide searching all across Canada for chips I'd consider harvesting if I ever got the chance. Some are pretty decent I think. Some would definitely require a relabel. All of these are current as far as thechipguide states. Maybe one day I'll do a road trip and hit up a bunch of casinos along the way.

I’ve never had anyone at a poker room cage bat an eye if I asked for 1-2 racks of low denoms. I’ve not harvested any, but they give these out all the tile, all day long.

I suppose if you immediately stuff them in a backpack and run for the door, someone might catch on. But people hold chips to play later, go up to their room with chips, etc. all the time. Maybe there are casinos which are hyper-vigilant about chips leaving the gaming floor, but I’ve not encountered that (tourneys excepted, of course).

I am thinking about trying to get a single table cash set with casino chips. Is it possible to go to a casino and buy the denominations like .25 1 2.50 and 5 and keep them? Is that not advised?
