Using the table as storage for poker chips (1 Viewer)

18" stroke, $160 12V DC. Just have it come up through the center of the rack space and push the whole top open. Run it and the lights off of one battery.

Lol, I still say you want to be able to access storage without disrupting the table surface...

Now, if you could get Tony to do a felted racetrack, and the inside betting section simply raises up (automated) to reveal storage underneath...? Now THAT would be baller, and peoples chipstacks on the table are not affected!

Closest thing I could find online that illustrates what I'm talking about...

Just imagine the raised section being felted and oval (betting area), and having rack storage shelves inside. This would win the internet if it came to fruition!

Though that means I would need to get some art done too. Can't get a fancy table without pretty art.

Long delayed work on my custom chips - a six year delay due to all of these nifty casino / vintage chips I bought instead. That could prove to be a PITA until it was done.

That would be the most baller of baller tables ever!

Sadly. the poker budget isn't likely to support an automated chip-lifting system. Not that it isn't a true wonder - but I am sure ouchy expensive and perhaps prone to mechanical problems. We are talking 300+ pounds of chips plus the table top plus the shelving. Not as much as a car, but serious weight. I'd need to have a $3,000+ win and those are rare events to be talking such a thing and even then it would be tough. I have had that kind of winning night in 30+ years of playing . . . . It will take good luck!

Tonight I am running a second test to see if a smaller pedestal would work - 14" wide rather than 20". That cuts the storage in half, but it only gives an extra 3" on each side. I am not very optimistic but we shall see.

The hinged top shows a lot of promise. We will have to be mindful of the players legs still - there isn't a huge clearance from the top of the leg to the base of the table top.

Just to fill in the picture:

The original plan was for 18" deep X 21.5" wide drawers each of which would hold twelve racks or 1,200 chips. (two deep by six across) three drawers wide stacked four high. 1,200 X 12 = 14,400 chips

A rack is roughly 8 1/8 (long) x 3 1/8 (wide) x 2 1/4 (high) and there needs to be finger room. Some racks are smaller and shorter, very few are bigger.

A smaller drawer 11" deep X 17" wide could hold six racks (rotated side ways two across by three deep) 600 chips per drawer . Four drawers wide stacked four high. 600 X 16 = 9,600.

If we took out the bottom row of drawers to leave foot space we end up with 7,200 chips in storage. Which isn't bad - it would get everything loose on the floor in storage and leave me only chip cases and one 2,000 rolling unit.

Yeah, but where are you going to put the next 10,000 chips you buy.......

Word!

I tested again tonight with a smaller pedestal. Results were mixed, but notably better than last session with the full sized unit. Some people didn't notice at all. Others kicked the model but didn't complain and one man said it bothered him but maybe he could live with it. I think I'll run the test a second session - we were a little short handed tonight and that gave everyone more room than normal.
