Honest Answer: I don't think collecting any specificity is different from a macro level. Now if you ask me personally, whats different in collecting poker chips than your collecting of x, y, z Barrie?
I would answer, well I belong to a community and work hand in hand with hundreds or thousands of folks in collecting poker chips, to the point that I've spent time at their homes, met their families, have left thousands and thousands of dollars worth of goods in their possession, and actively buy and sell based fully on trust. It is a social construct, and one that can and does provide actual support to many people, both day to day as well as in times of need. In my other hobbies, there may be a community, but it is not to this degree of trust or involvement amongst this many people.
There is no code we have to follow other than a couple of blatant rules to protect ourselves. Beyond that, there is a couple of things we can all flap our lips about and get bogged down in (dibs), but for the most part all these "unwritten" rules and such are basically, "Don't be an asshole". Now if someone is insulted by that, or thinks of that as dogma in the community, so be it. They can still do things that are completely selfish, they can still post while having 0 self awareness, yadda yadda yada, but they're obviously not hindered or relegated to some dark corner of the forum.
Number 4 literally reads "Show respect (and patience) to the seasoned chippers who provide guidance/wisdom to us all. This extends to mods as well." BGinGA answers the same questions, again and again. And again and again and again. In 5 years, Brie will have officially welcomed 5,395 chippers to the site, and Ben will have sent each of them a welcome essay. David has defused however many issues and asked us to Chip On relentlessly. AllForCharity has reached out to who knows how many chippers looking to get their hands on their first nice set, working with them to try and build a really cost effective set out of his stuff.
Not sure why you would personally take that as I show someone extra respect because they've done this longer, but I suppose anything is open for interpretation.
