Hi,

My name is Per and I'm from Sweden. Hosted some games back in the days (The booms explosion). From a year ago to now I host games again, both CG and MTT (most STT). I wan't to take it to another level, good or bad, don't know yet but at least I want to try this. The set I want to build will be in ceramic. (Are Europeens in general more positve to ceramic vs clay?). A guy called Hobbyphilic took me here after watching his (Great!) YouTube channel, heard of him? ;)

Yes, I'm aware of that such a set is non recommended...

But that's what I want to build, and maybee someone here has an experience of it? I could go up to 1,200pcs pokerchips. The 500-1000 mtt disturbs me, if I wanted a high stakes CG I would go for 500-2000 but maybee thats not good? Usually I host 8-10 players STT but I want a capacity of up to 30 players. For CG 8-handed is enough.

What do you guys think of following for tournament play:

T.25 - 240pcs
T1 - 240pcs
T5 - 180pcs
T20 -260pcs
T100 - 120pcs

1,040pcs in total.

$200 = 12-12-9-7 gives 20 bi
$100 = 8-8-6-2 gives 30 bi

Additional 20pcs of T20 coloring up T.25+T1. T100 for rebuys and coloring up T5. Enough? Could work for CG as well?

Looking forward to your feedback!

For the tournament, you're essentially playing a t25 base with t2000 and t10000 instead of the more traditional t1000 and t5000. If playing very large starting stacks (at least 20k, but really more would be better for a single table) or playing multiple tables (4+) then those denominations work, but for a single table with the traditional 10k starting stack there isn't enough value on the table to use the t10k chip effectively.

If you want a set to be useful for both cash games and tournaments (and you're aware of the issue of tournament chips being pocketed and used for the cash game), the best bet is probably to do t5 base 2k tournaments. It's not a perfect crossover, but cash games and tournaments have different denomination needs. You would need to add some t500, but can do with a lot less .25

There is nothing wrong with using a micro-set for a tournament. I used to do that before I got a dedicated tourney set.

The first thing you do is decide on how many BB to start everyone off at. Then you create you blind progression on the chips you have. Since you are using T0.25 as the smallest you can start with 0.25/0.50 and then have either T50, T100, T200, depending on your desired time and depth of play.

Why do you need so many T20? If you are planning 30 players with T100 then you would only need 90 T20 for starting stacks. Your post states quantity 2 T20 when it should be 3. Even accounting for additional 20 T20 for color ups, that means only 120 T20 are required.

Tjenare Per! Välkommen till forumet!

First of all, yep, @Hobbyphilic makes great chip videos, and so does @Chris Manzoni! Keep it up, guys!

What is your budget? What stakes do you play at in your cash games?

You've probably heard the standard reasons for having separate sets, so here's two more:

I myself host freezout MTTs where those who are eliminated play cash game, and in that scenario having separate sets for cash and tourney is not only very practical, it's required. I can't imagine the hassle of trying to get the cash game going with the same set that is currently being played.

But the most important reason is:
You get to buy MOAR CHIPS!!!

Thank you everyone.

One more thing Im thinking of and unsure of....is it a standard how to print te K chips? Im doing a custom set: 1,000 5,000 25,000 100,000 or 1000 5000 25000 100000 or with "." instead of "," or maybe space like 5 000?? Different CG vs tourney?

Thank you everyone.

From what I've seen the most common approach for poker chips (and please correct me if I'm wrong) is to use a comma at 5 digits, e.g. the Royals:

(No comma with 4, comma with 5)

Although there are exceptions, like the comma-less monte carlos:

...or the Milanos which has a comma at 4 digits:

Do what you think looks best!

Btw, which blinds do you want to support when playing cash game? That info is important when giving advice.

If I begin calculate to get enough for 18 people full stack tournament play. With the possibility to use BBA, and up to 9 rebuys. What do you say about this setup and breakdown:

12/12//9/7 = 200

T0.25 - 216pcs

T1 - 216pcs

T5 - 162pcs

T20 - 140pcs (rounding up T0.25+T1 gives 126+3+11)

T100 - 27pcs (9 rebuys gives 18+8 rounding up T5 and one extra to cover ev. extra value of rounding up)

The math checks out, but the T5 amounts to 810, so 18+9 T100 are needed, plus whatever you need for covering round-ups.

Plus spares of all.

@Poker Zombie, can you show some pics of your travel set, please? The set where you have for e.g. a large 1 followed by small 00 so it doubles as 1 and 100.

I found it! Aviation Club de Zombie! I think this is a neat way to combine cash and tourney.
From concept to completion, two and a half months.

Thanks to everyone for their input in this heads-up but expandable to 3 player, cash/tournament set.

There are a few things I might have done differently, but I'd be picking at nits. The chips are slick, and I suspect some will eventually find their way onto the airplane floor, so those design changes may eventually occur.

Great work (as always) by @Gear and I look forward to doing buisness with him again (probably December :cautious:). Their maiden flight is scheduled for October, as we travel to the Berzerkr Island meet-up. Pics will be posted, I'm sure.
