Tina hybrid thickness (9 Viewers)

Just received by first set of Tina's hybrids courtesy of Justin, and it definitely won't be my last!

One thing I did notice is that these Tina's are a little thinner than previous ceramic sets I've gotten from other vendors. In fact, I can fit 21 in a rack. I think I've heard others mention getting custom racks for Tina's.

No big deal, but it does raise one question for me: Are Tina's at least consistent in their thickness? If I add on to a set later, will they still be uniform?

I am 96% sure the thickness will be the same within each mold.

If you're fitting 21 to a rack, then you're using larger than typical racks. Tina hybrids fit well in any rack designed for Paulsons.

I have samples of tina at various stage, their earlier produced chips are definitely taller than the chips produced now. (around half a chip shorter per barrel when i compared the latest to the oldest sample)

My best guess is they making them shorter so they can squeeze more blank/chips per lot thus getting a better profit margin or changed a different blank supplier.

Okay, but every mold is unique, and has the possibility of being slightly thicker or thinner than another mold. So the only way to make a comparison, and come to any actual conclusion would be to compare earlier and later chips that all have the same mold.

Ofc, I compare them using the same mold for differences. I don't have all the mold (from the early + the latest or the newer mold like the Sun/Jester which don;t warrent a comparison) but the few that I compare do have differences.

edited: just to add my samples are mostly 39mm. I not sure if the differences apply to 43mm as well

I have a mixed-mold sample barrel of 39mm Tina hybrids on my desk that I just measured (66mm +- .5mm, sorry it's a fabric tape measure), and these should fit nicely in a Paulson rack, maybe with a little wiggle room in a standard 67.7mm rack but not a whole chip's worth. The only way I'd see 21 fitting is in a 70mm rack. But I can't guarantee the manufacture date of these, so I guess that info's of limited utility.

Edit: FWIW these are exactly the height of a barrel of my plastic diamond chips, even though individually the Tina's appear thinner. I guess the plastic chips compress or nest a little when stacked.

Not just hybrids, but I think all Tinas are a little on the thin side. They certainly vary from mold to mold.

I tested some of my own Tina cards mold with a cheap rack and found they easily fits 21 per row. I also have a web mold set and that also fit 21 but it was a bit tighter to do so.

Web mold is left, and cards mold is right. It took two barrels stacked to show that difference.

In a few weeks I can test another set when my Tangiers arrive.

May well be. I bought these racks over a decade ago, and I don't remember where I bought them.
