I'm exploring options for an 8-player oval table and wondered if anyone here has experience with the Helmsley from BBO. https://www.bbopokertables.com/modern-poker-tables

So, some background: my regular game is typically 7-8 players and last year I got the 8-player round table from Triton. I got that thinking a round table would be better for a rotating deal, which would be true except that it turns out most of my regs are just god-awful at shuffling and dealing and at least two of them hate doing it. I've ended up performing most of the dealing duties, which I don't mind except that now the round table is less than ideal for a permanent dealer. (Which is to say nothing bad about the table itself. The Triton is a good table.)

The Helmsley looks like it has cupholders centered along the long side which is good for a perm dealer position, and I like that it comes with a dining top as the space is normally occupied by a dining table when the Triton is in storage. But the Helmsley is not cheap so weighing options.

Not necessarily averse to getting a 9-10 player table but I've yet to see that many in a night so might just be wasted space.

Thanks in advance for any input!

To be quite honest, when I began shopping for a custom poker table, when I came across BBO, they felt like a Honda Civic with neon lights and a spoiler.

I feel there are better brands out there.

I went with Pharaoh Manufacturing out of Glendale, CA. Pics are in the link in my signature.

I love both my round and oval, but the oval gets a ton more play, and more room.

A Honda Civic?!? What's a Barrington then, a 1978 Gremlin?

Hahaha understood.

Really like your Pharaoh tables, they are amazing! Poked around on their website a little bit and they might be out of my price range but man, those are some nice tables.

Thanks for the input!

Shoot me an email to bill@pplpoker if your interested in something full custom for exactly what works for you size and budget wise.

I don't have any experience with the Helmsley, but I have their Aces Pro Alpha and I love it. I also generally serve as the full-time dealer at my game, and I really like having a dealer cutout (I've got back issues, so not having to reach out as far to drag bets is a huge boon for me).

Tricked-out-Honda-Accord-ness of it aside, I think it's great for the price. Other more high-end/custom tables that I looked at were like 50% to 100% more than what I paid, and while I would have loved to be able to go that route (and certainly don't begrudge anybody who can), I just couldn't swing that much more.
