Things That Are Bullsh*t (62 Viewers)

Losing a public dibs posting to a PM.

I’ve bought chips via PM before but only when the thread wasn’t very active or with only split interest.

Only the shitters and flippers here hide their eager dibs by PM so they can’t be identified and later when they flip via PM no one knows what price they paid initially.

Full dibs within minutes of a posting should be public or not count at all.

I don't have a strong opinion on this, but I think sold items should always show what price they sold at so that buyers can gauge relative prices and not get ripped off by people who thrive on a lack of info

Most of my chip buys have been via PM. I didn't buy (or sell) whatever you had dibs on, but suffice to say that I have never flipped any chips (sales have always been close to what I paid +/- a few bucks.

When I open PCF, I read my PMs - and resolve them - before I go onto the threads. PM's are business and reading PCF is leisure. If I'm selling something, I will see the PM before I see the dibs. PMs will be taken care of, and there is a very real chance that the chips will be in the mail before a "dibs" in the thread is ever seen.

Best practice that I would recommend: PM the seller before making the public declaration.

One pain point I’ve had with dibs in general is folks releasing dibs or sale not going through, and then it goes to backup dibs.

I’ve missed on a couple buys because I didn’t note backup dibs because I respected the first.

Honestly having users PM first and then users noting “PM Sent” in the threads feels like a better system in some ways, but recognize that might also create a offline “auction environment”. Meh

Probably need that “Buy it now” button!

I wasn’t personally affected. Just calling out something I disagree with. In this case dibs in the thread was posted like 15-20 minutes after the initial listing.

Man, I see where you're coming from. I've had this happen to me. Called dibs in the thread and followed up with a PM only to be told that someone beat me to the punch by seconds and PM'ed them first.

It sucks. At the end of the day, on the other side of the coin, as a seller, I'm going to sell to who I want to. If I'm selling anything, I prioritize my local guys first and send a text or PM asking if anyone wants what I'm selling first. Next, I'll run a search and see if anyone had a WTB ad out. I'll reach out privately if I find a match and offer to sell.

After that, even with a public listing, I'll prioritize selling to people I've transacted well with in the past, but 99% of the time, I'll sell to who sent a PM or claimed intent to buy first.

Sellers can sell to who they want to. There's no hard feelings from me if I express intent to buy and the seller goes in another direction, but it's frustrating if it's known I was looking for something, had a WTB ad out, or sent a PM to the seller before expressing interest if they ever sold if it was known they had what was for sale.

The whole, competitive housing rental game. Paid $120 total for my wife and I to apply to rent a townhouse. They take the money and, surprise! Approve our application to pay them lots of money. "Congratulations!"

But the approval says I can't see the lease until I send them the security deposit ahead of time. Simple email with lots of "PREMISES WILL STILL BE ON THE MARKET UNTIL YOU WIRE THE MONEY", with a PDF attached explaining where to send my thousands. So the $120 doesn't even get me a glimpse at the lease, which I'm sure is filled with little nicks and jabs at move-in and -out. They say it would be refunded if we choose not to lease there but it just feels like tons of sunk-cost fallacy. If I've already sent them all that money I'm less likely to complain about a $450 moving-out-on-a-weekend clause.

Edit to add: we were lucky enough to find another great housing and are super happy, but this one cracked us up. We've been scammed before and this, even if not a pure scam, smelled pretty scammy.

The new “reckless” driving law and penalties in MD. I understand why, but I think it’s a little much

That's insane. I love to bike, but I avoid major roads like the plague, and I'm in suburbia. Zero chance I'd take my bike out in a city aside from a park.
Where I'm at all the spandex mafia rides the backroads through the country that are 2 lanes with no shoulders. Gets sketchy when you go around a blind corner to find a biker in front of you. I love my bike, but I don't do that, nor do I own spandex .

Yeah because I've never seen a person drive a car recklessly 🤣 or driven a car waaaay under the speed limit.

People can be idiots. Nothing to do if they're driving a car or riding a bike, riding a snowboard or riding skiis.

I think it's BULLSH*T when people label a whole group of other people just because of a couple bad apple's.

I do know this is "just for fun thread" but I know people who have been seriously injured or lost their life riding a bike because of some dip shit person running them over with their car while literally riding in a bike lane. Can't count how many times it's almost been my turn.

I used to enjoy riding on the roads. But at some point 10-15 years ago, it became apparent that as many drivers were looking at their phones as the road. At that point I took it off-road pretty much exclusively. I’d rather try my luck with a stationary tree than a moving car.
And I agree that spandex looks dumb on most men, but using that as an insult is pretty lame.

I'm a cyclist and these guys are idiots and their videos are pure rage bait.

On the flip side, I've had far too many run ins with morons in cars who at best, don't pay attention, or at worst, view other law-abiding road users as mere objects in their way. Unfortunately, even if I'm in the right, in a cyclist vs. vehicle situation, I can only lose and I prefer to be able to see my wife and kids again.

There are idiot cyclists, pedestrians and drivers. They can all f••k right off.

I could never trust drivers en masse to ride like that. One ill-timed door opens and BAM!!! road pizza.

Whelp. I tried earning some PCF reward points by selling chips. Apparently they are not currency and hold $0.00000000 value.

So if anyone has any odd jobs or weird things I can do in exchange for some PCF reward points, let me know!
