Things That Are Bullsh*t (12 Viewers)

Though I agree that it’s better not to pre-deal the board, I have a player that likes to do this so he doesn’t forget to burn. At the end of the day, I never said anything because…what’s the big deal?

There's no point in burning if you predeal the board. If the deck is marked then those not in the know are hooped.

People keep saying this, but what's the point? There are plenty of people who don't care if a board is predealt. But how many people are okay with no burns? I bet very few. Because burning is the rule - that's the order the cards are supposed to come out of the deck.

I think we all knew burning cards makes it harder to cheat. My point was that if someone is cheating at your home game, pre-dealing cards would become the least of your worries, not to mention that marked cards still work on hole cards. If no one is cheating at your game, pre-dealing is just a quirk of a particular friend that’s not worth fussing over for me.

If a card is accidentally marked, is using that information "cheating" or is it "poker is a game of observation".

It's not dissimilar knowing an intoxicated neighbor is lifting their cards in a way you can see. Just because you told them once doesn't mean they remember (or even know they're still doing it). Are you cheating by not changing seats?

These questions are rhetorical of course. I'm not asking the defenders to respond, I'm asking if they are 100% sure that every player at the table would let you know there was a smudge on a card - including the guy whose playing at your home for the first time.

And burning is the rule so you don't expose the back (not front) of the card that is going to be in play.

If there's no exposure, then no need to burn. The only time I've come across this situation is with an automatic card dealer that dealt all cards from the bottom of the deck. (It didn't last for use, since everyone preferred the physical handling of the deck.)

There may be "other things" to worry about, but nothing is helped or solved by pre-dealing, right? You're just making a bad situation (knowingly or not) potentially worse.

I understand why we burn. I'm just saying I think more people would be upset by no burns than would be by pre-dealing the board.

I used to have one person who ALWAYS pre-dealt the board. I just had to explain one time why it's not a great idea, and it stopped. Not really a big deal. Just something that not everyone is aware of with regard to dealing etiquette.

I spent a fair amount of money on golf lessons. I wasn’t getting much better. My coach took a new job, so I got a new one. New coach pretty much said everything I learned was wrong. Pretty pissed at the moment, but happy to get the swing working. …. Hopefully
I feel your pain. Happened to me when my coach left and another took over. It happened around 4 times in total.

In the end I just practiced my short game and that got my handicap down from 27 to 12. Not been for a lesson in years and it’s the best thing I’ve ever done.

Every time I left a lesson my head was spinning with all the useless information I was given.

I guess what’s “helped” is my friend likes doing it that way and we don’t mind so we let him.

Actually, come to think of it, one other benefit is that he sometimes isn’t fully concentrating on the action (because he’s watching TV), so another player can help flip the cards when needed.

Look, I fully appreciate the NEVER pre-deal boards contingent. I personally also never do it. I just don’t mind as much as you all when someone else does it.

Yes. It’s almost like a “don’t tap the glass” thing.

In a perfect world we would all stick to all the rules 100% of the time. Which would mean a lot of enforcing, including no pre-dealt boards. But I don't mind getting lax with some things at my home game - I'm not going to be the constant rule nazi. If that makes me less of a quality host, no argument here, and sorry you don't want to come back.
I follow rules that make sense.

When I host, if dealer accidentally messes up and flips a card over, it's up to that player at that very moment to decide on keeping it or not. Who cares if everyone else saw it. My brazen dumbass is keeping the card. And now I've been able to make it happen at other home games and Vegas.

Golf is a lot like global thermonuclear war -- the only winning move is to not play.

Agree with most, but TSA usually gives me way more action than the nits I usually play with

The TSA is always all in. Whenever they catch me with sunscreen or shaving cream above the allowable size I ask in a sultry voice “what’s my punishment?” And bite my lip hopefully.

I typically breeze on through!

I've got to say, I did not know what Kentucky Deluxe was. Who knew there was a "whiskey" that could be had for under $10 a bottle. o_O

This won't go on any lists of mine, since I have no plans to try it out.

It was my first taste of whiskey, so it holds a special little place (of hatred) in my heart. 20% Kentucky straight whiskey, 80% grain neutral spirits, 100% bullshit

I’m intrigued. It doesn’t seem to exist in the northeast. I mean it sounds like pure garbage. But I’m intrigued. It must be cheap?

Murdering leaded casino THCs with shaped inlays. I’m not in the market and nor will I be, but come on, please get some NAGB chips for your stupid relabels. You’re ”gonna go a different direction” anyway in six months o_O
