The Protégé Thread (2 Viewers)

I think the system just needs time to catch up since he just did his 3rd post

Had some time for a family shot. The $25/$100$500/$1000’s are recent additions. Looking for more 1k’s and some 5k and 25k’s for a t100 tourney set.

If anyone from my not great photos can tell what variants the second rack of $25’s over to the 1k’s are I like to keep track but I’m terrible at determining what they are.

Still coming to terms with the fact that I have been continuously using a very large Protégé tournament set for close to 20 years, and haven't properly appreciated the quality and scarcity of my chipset :)

I value these chips mostly for their playability: they have a great balance of weight and texture and riffle-ability that makes them enjoyable to stack and manipulate. They have held up incredibly well through continuous use. They get compliments.

All that being said, I was considering replacing these with a 'highest possible quality' chipset. This was before I fully understood the high regard for protoges.

If cost was no object, what chipsets should I look at that match or exceed the quality and playability of these protoges? For tournament use, must have denominations between 100 and 25000.

Any recommendations welcomed, no judgement intended.

I’m thinking the second rack of $25’s next to the $100’s is v1. The $100’s are v1 the $500’s are v1 and the $1000’s are V2. If I’m not right I would love help so I can keep track.

Sometimes they're really tough to tell unless you have the variations side by side, but if I had to guess from the photos, they appear to be:

$25s - v2
$100s - v1
$500s - v1
$1000s - v2

Wanted to give a quick shout out of gratitude to @orsonberger, @kk405 and @Joe Harris, as well as many other encouraging PCF members.

All were very generous in helping me on my "quest" to add 100 Protégé 5000s to my chipset, and to replace my lost Protégé 500.

Special thanks to @Joe Harris, who shared an extra 500 and even gifted me a Protégé Dealer Button. Super cool! I would purchase 5 more Protege Dealer Buttons, someone DM me if you know of extra supply.

Very, very grateful to these community members, so glad I don't have to purchase a new chipset and can continue to use my Proteges.

Some pictures of my new additions.

If any Protégé thread followers find themselves in northern New Jersey on the first Friday of the month, I host rake-free tournaments of varying buy ins and formats for 30-60 people with my Protégé chipset. Happy to have you.

Hard to match the generosity shown to me!

But if you collect Proteges and have a need for green $25s, I have a large number that I do not use. For the cost of shipping, I would be happy to share some of them to other PCF users. Only condition that you not offer them for resale. DM me.

Some of those 25's found their way to a great home.
I will check but should have one or two spare DB's for you.

So they aren’t in my hands just yet but somehow my set has exploded by another 500 or so chips. Still need 5k, 25k, or Ncv chips in place of but the hunt continues. Moar pron once I have them all together.

Another emotional roller coaster Sidepot.

But ceramics are now availible if anyone is interested.

I was thinking about starting a new thread about this, but I'll continue here for now. Anybody else think $1.69 is a bit much for a ceramic? I'm also rather underwhelmed by the look of this line in a ceramic version. Thoughts??

I agree. Also the idea of mixing ceramic chips with the original clays just throws my OCD feeling off the charts.

Plaques mixed in are fine and fun. Ceramic chips mixed in with clay I just can't do.

It’s pretty outrageous. Although I did think their clay version was too expensive as well back when they had those available for sale:)

Yea leaded THC back in the late 2000s were crazy priced to me too. Now look at where things are...

I don't see that ever happening with ceramic chips though.
