As I always use

1. Take Oxy clean max force spray gel, spray on chips coating it all just enough, let sit for 5-10 mins in container or whatever. * you need this to get hard stains, soot, blood whatever out easily.
2. Pour in some dish soap(dawn is best but doesn’t matter).
3. Put oxy crystals in
4. Full with warm water and swish chips around and let sit for 2-5 mins
5. Pull out and scrub it with brush.

You’ll notice once you pull out that stains is mostly gone, clean as desired. Enjoy, these are great chips.

I'm finally about to try cleaning some of my SD $5s. Is this still the best method? Is the Oxy Gel essential? I don't want to waste my time with just regular Oxy and Dawn if I really need the gel.

I use oxy crystals so bubbles agitate the dirt/stains and hydrogen peroxide disinfects, the soap is used to clear smells, you don’t need it though, just let sit for few mins up to 10 mins and leave in warm water or hot doesn’t matter for few more mins then clean as you like, or do it straight from gel but you’ll need to wash off and rinse chips in water anyway.

Re-hotstamp is cheap and great route but I decided to mill and label and keep it Sahara Dunes. Blue base color match on $1 still in progress.

Vintage room 1s seem like they could work as $25s. Same spot pattern as the 5s to continue the progression and the yellow spot is a close match for the 5, the brown a close match for the mauve spots on the 5s. Otoh I can see how them being an “almost” matching color would be a drawback to some.

This is what mine look like. Barrel on the left is best of the best, cherry picked from 4 racks.

Middle barrel is second best. Pretty obvious drop off. Third barrel (not cleaned yet) is what the next hundred look like. And it goes further downhill from there.
