So tell me your thoughts guys..
Are the THC chips made better ? I know they're supposed to be a little more durable.
Are they made from different material ?

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks...

Not made any different. Different mold design and the edges of RHC are more susceptible to flea bites due to minimal amount of clay remaining. Where as THC have a ring around the outside of the chip that has substantially more clay and therefore less propensity to chip.

THC usually fair well with normal home use. RHC however, even if just used for home use will chip. This is pretty annoying to put it mildly. You can buy a mint rack of RHC chips use them for a few years and there will be flea bites.
If you just decide you don't care about flea bites and enjoy the chips that works. However, for people that are OCD it is hard to justify using RHC in place of THC chips.

There are also just way more RHC options available since in the last few years GPI has actively pushed RHC over THC.

BTP/SB/Star chips are probably some of the last complete sets to be made on the THC mold which is pretty cool.

A lot of people don't realize the difference between RHC and THC. Here is a visual comparison that will help people.

Notice how the THC chip on the left has an outer ring past the hats? That is the main difference other than the hats and canes look better on THC. On the RHC chip on the right the hats are right up against the edge which causes chips/flea bites and wears the chip down faster.

So do any of the casinos use RHC as opposed to the THC ?
I know I played a lot at the old Aztar Casino in Evansville Indiana, and they used RHC, but they felt a little thicker or something than other RHC's ive felt..

Very few new casino chips are produced on the THC mold -- most new casino clays are RHC. And re-orders probably make up the bulk of new THC chips.

All of the Paulson chips made are the same initial thickness (3.3mm), regardless of mold used or chip diameter.

Older THC chips (pre-1998) were made with materials containing a large percentage of lead, which contributed extra weight and resulted in a softer feeling chip that resisted chipping, wearing down more evenly with heavy use.

It's a shame that more casinos don';t use THC. I would have thought that there would be a good business argument for using it over the RHC, since they're less prone to damage which means longer turnover. But then again, if they only wanted durability I suppose they could have gone all ceramic or all plastic some time ago.

For the record, my favorite chips to handle so far have been hotstamped RHC's.

I’ve had a ton of RHC and THC chips here. THC while not physically thicker just feels so much more substantial in your hands when you shuffle them for some reason. THC also sounds different, maybe a lower frequency... a deeper tone.

That being said, mint RHC > casino used/rounded THC any day of the week.

Harrah's in Joliet, IL use both at the same time for their $1's.

I prefer THC (in more then one way ;) ) but have two RHC exceptions:

Mesquite stars -> awsome old school Nevada chips, too bad the $1 chips are made of unobtanium
Shetaton roulettes -> great colors, old school leaded & textured inlays (that will be removed) these stack a mile high !

I like slightly rounded chips, over mint. Easier to play with. No preference over RHC or THC as long as they don’t have flea bites. You can hate me if you want. I have spoken.
