Table Showcase (pics) (5 Viewers)

I personally really do not like stitches in a rail and will do anything I can to avoid it, but it's nearly 100% personal preference. However, some circumstances require stitches like real leather:

Or, in this case 2 different color vinyls: (ugh fuzzy photo)

Though real leather doesn't mean it HAS to have seams if the table is small enough or has a dealer cutout.:

Man, I would never have wanted the double stitch on that first brown table either, but I have to say, I like it! I think my biggest concern was symmetry Will the stitches be even, will they line up with stitches across the table, etc. The stitch on the turn of the oval does bother me. The stitches on the side look good to me. Interesting how that works.

I like the ingenuity, the repurposing, especially of the stair treads. I would have no problem playing at that table! In fact, it's interesting to note, my chairs have arm rests and players lean on the padded rail maybe 50% of the time.

Also, interesting that yours is 56" and players have issues. Mine is 54" and we're good to go. 2"...really, it makes that much of a difference? We maybe stretch sometimes, but I was tempted to go 58", but i might just keep it the same.

We have a few chesty female players. The kind that don't shop for bras in regular stores because regular stores rarely carry larger than DD cups. Even I, at 6' and a fit(ish) 180 lbs, have to occasionally stand a bit to control the pot and muck. We also sit on padded folding chairs at this table, and folding chairs typically sit about an inch lower than dining room style chairs. Finally, as a topper, the table is about an inch taller than a normal table. All of those factors add up.

You motor-boatin' SOB you

I should also say, I wasn't being funny. I believe the 2" does make a difference and it surprised me. I could maybe go 56", but again, I'd be having the same issues you are and my guys don't wear bras. At least that I know of :cautious:

Table size, "effective reach", chair height, and table height all play a role in the total calculation. Watch any dealer in a casino, and you will see them elevate the chair and/or bring in a big foam wedge to sit on. Every last inch matters if your elbow is straight. After that it's all body strain.

I measured my arm, and it's 2'5" (with middle finger touching thumb). 29" is all I can reach, which would get me just shy of the middle of a 58" table. However
  1. My arm is also reaching downward from the shoulder to the table, so I'm really not getting to the middle of a 58" table.
  2. Chips are rarely in the very middle. It's a pot. It's usually spread out a foot or two.
  3. I like to control the muck. This means pulling in cards from the other side of the pot in the middle of the table. This is just good dealer form.
To increase that 29", I'm leaning forward. Bending, stretching, but my arm is not getting any longer. I'm using torso now which is tough on an old guy like me whose spine consists of 4 titanium rods, 8 screws, and a titanium cage. Just because you can reach, it doesn't mean everyone in the game enjoys the same reach or is even capable of stretching.

I never purport the perfect table size. You may be able to do 56" or 58". Before trying that though, I would put a pencil or a pen on the rail right in front of you. Tape it down, with 1" hanging off the table. If you hit it over and over, then you know that that extra inch really does make a difference.

My 1st table (built 10 years ago, sold off to a buddy, still get to play on it on occasion):

2nd table - built for post-tourney cash games (sold off)

3rd table - a year or two later when my tourneys started getting bigger, this is one of my favorite color combos (sold off to a customer who stopped by and needed a table ASAP - he actually wanted to play a single face-up hand of hold'em for the table, dude liked to gamble lol):

My current main table, built in 2010 (re-felted about a year later with a custom felt, also added a shuffeltech):

My current second table (though I converted it to a folding table to make some extra space in my basement):

Table I built for a buddy, another one of my favorites, get to play on it several times a year. The steel pedestals may not look the best but this table is really comfy:

And a few other select tables I've built over the years:

Not the best quality pictures.

Custom cloth done by myself. Obviously it's a DC theme with logos for each player spot.
Printed onto gaming suede.

Built in shuffler.

Repainted pedestals in black stain and glossy poly.

Snakeskin vinyl with 1" HD foam.

Base sheet with veneer edging.

Led lights with remote control.

It's an oversized replica of the shape that crown casino use for their tables.

2700x1300 in size.

I'd love a clear pic of that felt!

This reminds me of a similar table from a while back where the cloth was done with a "villains" type theme (Joker, Freddy, Jason)

I love the 60" octagon table. Do you think it possible or desirable to go bigger than 60" to seat 10 people at a round one? Vastly prefer rounds and octagons.

I advise against going any larger than 60". Reaching the middle to scoop pots and cards can become difficult, but to each their own. You could always explore a 60" decagon for 10 players.

Finished building a good rail for this guy today. It was originally a recover of a cheap table I found on Craigslist. Bought the wrong shitty vinyl (zero stretch) and foam the first time, tried to recover the shitty 1/4" particle board rail, but it had to do in a pinch. Whisper vinyl is the NUTS. Used 2" 40lb foam, cuz it's what I could get with free one day prime shipping by this weekend, turned out nice and thick and cushy, actually feels really good and is nice for shuffling. Seats 8 comfortably, 10 in a pinch 80"x 42".

Before (yes, fugly table thread worthy)

Fantastic recovery!

No pun intended... or was it?
