Tourney T25k 20-40 players ~6 hours set up (1 Viewer)

Hey all,

My wife and I are buying a house and closing soon which will allow me to host the tournaments I've always wanted to host. I'm getting the set up ready so I can hopefully have my first tournament on St. Patrick's Day (PCF'ers welcome). I doubt I could get the players but I could probably fit 40 players (if not 40 then 30) for my games. I'm looking for the tournament to run for ~6 hours with T20k or T25k stacks (with 25k being preferred). No T25 chips so blinds must start at 100/100.

This would use my Majestics which I need to finish rounding out (100 more 1k or 100 more 500 plus 40 1k)

400 x T100 enough for 40 starting stacks
100(200) x T500 enough for 40 starting stacks plus 20 for color ups
300(400) x T1000 need 20 more for 40 starting stacks (Miscalculation when placing order. Will get at least 40 more)
160 x T5000 enough for 40 starting stacks plus 40 for color ups/rebuys
40 x T25000 rebuys plus color ups later if tons of chips in play

I noticed the blinds go up faster in the beginning (obviously a symptom of no T25) but there isn't much I can do. I like this set up a lot except for the fact there rebuy period doesn't end during a break. I want to get the feedback of everyone else to see how this can be improved. It seems like this tournament would be around 6 hours depending on number of entries and amount of rebuys.

NOTE: The blind increase percentages above are expressed as the increase in ~total~ blinds, not just the big blind increases. This method more accurately reflects the structure when the small blind is not always 1/2 the value of the big blind (which is not a hard-fast requirement, btw -- it's called a small blind bet, not a half-blind).

There is no real reason to only stop the re-buy period at a scheduled break. Nothing really happens at this point, except an announcement that re-buys are no longer available. Offering re-buys past L6 is not really offering a very good value in terms of stack size when viewed as # of big blinds.

As structured above, a 40 player event will finish by L19/L20 -- about 7 hours with 20-minute levels, or about 5.5 hours with 15-minute levels (including breaks for either scenario). 30 players will finish by L18/L19, or about 1/2-hour sooner than 40 players. Reducing the starting stack size to T20K will shorten the event by another 1/2 hour or so.

Blind level times can be altered based on your player field size, resulting in an event that fits in your desired time window. There are no rules that state that blind level times must be in 5-minute increments, or remain the same for the duration of the event -- if 18 minutes (or 16, etc.) is what works, use it.

Another option to shorten the event is to use 20-minute blinds for L1-L16, and finish the event from L17 forward with 15-minute levels (this will cut off another 15-20 minutes). In the latter stages of a tournament, it is perfectly fine to reduce the level times as the table size gets smaller (which results in more hands played per hour) - a shorter blind level duration simply means that roughly the same number of hands/hour is played throughout the tournament.

Thanks for the reply. Looks like I didn't do too bad of a job. Changing 500/1000 to 400/800 makes a lot of sense.
