Tourney T100 Blind Structure - Thoughts? (1 Viewer)

So I played in my first casino tournament tonight at a local casino. It was a T100 base with a T20k starting stack and 20min blinds. The starting chip breakdown seemed a bit Scrooge-like at 10/2/8/2, but it worked okay. The thing l really noticed and liked though was the blinds and breaks… a bit different from what I have seen posted as “typical” (particularly the 3 levels between 4/8 and 10/20) but they seemed to work really well and I liked how the breaks were logically and consistently spaced. Here is what they were. I’m thinking of using them for a home game I am hoping to host - thoughts?

I wouldn’t be so quick to color up the 100s for a home game. 400/800, 500/1000, 600/1200, 800/1600, then color up and go 1000/2000.

Thanks and ya that is exactly the difference I’m referring is that a-typical progression at L7-L9 and L15-L17. Why is it that you say for a home game you wouldn’t be so quick to colour up the T100s?

Just for the reason I said. Maybe the levels in the casino tournament make sense to speed things up but going with the ones I listed make more sense. You can do what you want in a home game so you don’t need to color up the 100s at the exact same time as the casino structure.

The blind structure used by your local casino uses a relatively slow (although flawed) progression, with increases ranging from 20% to 67% (the flawed part), averaging 35.1% over the 18 levels shown:

Leaving aside the beefy jumps to 2/3 instead of 1/3 at L3 and L11 (that I think I will change to 1/3), it was mostly the slow down to 3 levels instead of 2 levels between 4/8 and 10/20 that I thought was clever. I didn’t mind the slower progression here and actually thought the pot math and bet sizing was way easier with the round numbers of 5/10, 10/10, 10/15 vs. the typical 6/12, 8/16. But experience is what I’m looking for here - is there some issue I’m not seeing to this change from normal other than it being a bit slower and not standard? Thanks!

I think with the two corrections to L3 and L11 (as I noted above), it's a very clever way to slow down 'standard' T25- or T100-base structures that usually utilize T100 chips longer (and typically have 25% to 50% blind increases, averaging around 42%).

If the extra time needed isn't a factor, it's fine.

When 'non-standard' blinds like 100/100, 100/300, and 1000/1500 are used, then the total blinds amount must be used when calculating blinds increase percentages.

Adding in the total antes (individual or table-based) posted per level (if applicable) is also necessary to establish a comparable number for how aggressive/passive a given blind structure is towards the players.
